Yannick Noah Wiki Biography
Yannick Noah was born on the18th May 1960, in Sedan, France, and is a retired tennis player and pop music star, best known to the world for winning the French Open in 1983. His tennis career was active from 1977 until 1996, after which he took the microphone in his hands and released a number of successful albums, including “Saga Africa” (1990), and “Yannick Noah” (2000), among others.
Have you ever wondered how rich Yannick Noah is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Noah’s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned through both his successful careers.
Yannick is the son of the famous Cameronian football player Zacharie Noah, and Marie-Claire. His father had a successful career in France, however, after an injury, the whole family moved to Cameroon. Yannick, on the other hand, started playing tennis from an early age and in 1971 he was spotted by Arthur Ashe and Charlie Pasarell, who brought him back to France and enrolled him at the French Tennis Federation’s training center in Nice.
Six years later he became a professional tennis player, and the following year won several titles, the first one at an event held in Manila, Philippines, defeating Peter Feigl in straight sets in the final. He then won a tournament in Calcutta, India, while in 1980 brought home three more titles, from tournaments held in Nancy, France, Madrid, Spain and Bordeaux, France. The following year wasn’t quite so successful for Noah since he only reached the final in Rome, Italy, and lost to Guillermo Vilas, but he managed to bounce back in 1981, winning in Richmond, USA, and Nice, France, which only increased his net worth.
In 1982 he added a couple more titles to his trophy room, including from events held in La Quinta, USA, where he defeated Ivan Lendl, then Basel, Switzerland, where he bested Mats Wilander. 1983 was one of his most successful seasons, since he won his only Grand Slam title, the French Open, defeating Mats Wilander in straight sets, becoming first Frenchmen in 37 years to lift the trophy at Roland Garros, and still the most recent Frenchman to win it.
Aside from the French Open, Yannick won tournaments in Madrid, Spain and Hamburg, Germany, increasing further his net worth. Yannick played tennis until 1996, however, his last title came in 1990 when he defeated Carl-Uwe Steeb to lift the trophy at the Sydney International event, and from 1985 through 1990 won titles in Rome, Forest Hills, USA, Wembley, England, Lyon, France, and Milan. He was also successful in doubles, as he won 16 titles, mostly with Henry Leconte, with whom he won the French Open in 1984, and Guy Forget, with whom he won such tournaments as Indian Wells, USA, Rome, and Monte Carlo, Monaco, among many others. Thanks to his long and successful career, Yannick was inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame in 2005.
He started his music career in 1990, releasing his debut album “Saga Africa”, and since then has released 11 more albums, including “Yannick Noah” (2000), which topped the charts in France, “Pokhara” (2003), which also reached No. 1 in France, “Charango” (2006), “Frontières” (2010), “Hommage” (2012), and “Combats Ordinaries” (2012), all of which were No. 1 albums, and which contributed steadily to his net worth.
Regarding his personal life, Yannick has married three times; his first wife was a former Miss Sweden, Cecilia Rodhe (1984-87) and with her he has two children, son Yoakim Noah, who is a basketball player, and a daughter, Yelena. His second marriage was to Heather Stewart-Whyte (1995-99), a British model with whom he also has two children. His third wife is TV producer Isabelle Camus (m. 2003); the couple has a son.
Yannick is well-known for his philanthropic activities; he supports numerous charitable organizations that help underprivileged children, including founding his own Fête le Mur, organization.
