Michael Geoffrey Jones Wiki Biography
Michael Geoffrey Jones was born on the 26th June 1955, in Wandsworth, London, England of Welsh and Russian-Jewish ancestry. He is a guitarist, singer and songwriter best known as the co-founder of the band The Clash, and for being the founder and leader of the band Big Audio Dynamite. Currently, he participates in the punk rock duo entitled Carbon/Silicon. In 2003, Mick Jones was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame. Mick has been active in the entertainment industry since 1975.
How rich is the guitarist, singer and songwriter? Authoritative sources report that the overall size of Mick Jones’ net worth is as much as $10 million, as of the data presented in the middle of 2016. Music is the main source of Jones wealth.
To begin with, Jones lived most of his childhood with his grandmother, Stella in south London. Jones began attending art school because he believed it was the best way to find people willing to form a band, and in 1975 Jones formed the band London SS with his friend Tony James. The group never recorded any official material, but featured many members who participated in famous bands of the first wave of punk like Jones (The Clash) and James (Generation X), Brian James and Rat Scabies (The Damned) and Terry Chimes and Paul Simonon (The Clash). Still, his net worth was established.
In 1976, Jones invited Joe Strummer to participate along with his companions Simonon and Chimes in the group The Clash. Alongside Strummer, Jones wrote most of the songs of the band besides playing the first guitar and singing. In 1983, Strummer and Simonon ousted Jones from The Clash because of displeasure with his insistent musical experimentation. After his expulsion, Jones formed the band General Public, and then formed Big Audio Dynamite in 1984, usually known by the acronym BAD. The debut album of the band “This Is Big Audio Dynamite” (1985) gained considerable commercial success. For the second album entitled “No. 10 Upping St.” (1986), Mick Jones reunited with Joe Strummer to compose and produce the album; this partnership of Jones and Strummer was the last. While making the cover art of the third studio album, “Tighten Up, Vol.88” (1988) the band collaborated with Paul Simonon. However, shortly after its release, Jones became ill with pneumonia and spent many months in the hospital.
After his recovery, the band launched their following album “Megatop Phoenix” (1989), after which the band’s line-up changed several times so that they didn’t release their next, greatest hits album “Planet BAD” until 1995, as well as a new studio album “F-Punk”. In 1997, the album “Entering a New Ride” was issued only on the internet. Finally, “Super Hits” was released in 1999.
In 2003, Jones formed a new group called Carbon/Silicon, and the band performed on tour while recording three albums “Sample This, Peace” (2003), “Dope Factory Boogie” (2003) and “The Grand Delusion” (2004) which were not issued in the market, the reason being to share their work online for free.
Jones also worked as record producer for the debut album of The Libertines – “Up the Bracket”, and after good reviews in the USA and the UK, Jones produced the second and last album of the band. In 2003, Jones had a brief appearance in the film “Code 46”. In 2007, Jones played with Primal Scream during the presentation of the NME Shockwave Awards. Jones now also plays in the live band Gorillaz. They have performed at the Coachella Festival 2010, Glastonbury and the International Festival of Benicassim.
Finally, in the personal life of the musician, Jones is married to Miranda Dawis.
