Martha Eleonor Maguire was born on the 12th October 1969, in York, Pennsylvania USA, and is a musician, a founding member of the country band the Dixie Chicks, and has written several songs for the band, some of which have become top charts. She interpreted some of her songs as the principal singer, but mostly she sings with her sister Emily Robison as backing vocals. She provides the orchestration and the arrangements for the band too. Maguire has been active in the entertainment industry since 1989.

In 1989, Emily Robinson, Martie Maguire and Natalie Maines founded the female country band The Dixie Chicks, based in Dallas. The band was successful with hits like “Wide Open Spaces”, “Cowboy Take Me Away” and “Long Time Gone” released in the 1990s. The girls became widely known for their joyful nature, musical instrumentation and soaring ballads. They were nominated for Grammy Awards 23 times, 13 of which they won. In 2007, during the ceremony of the 49th Grammy awards, the Dixie Chicks won all five awards for which they were nominated, including the most prestigious: the Best Song of the year, the Best Recording of the year and the Best Album of the year.
