Kenneth Fisher Wiki Biography

Kenneth Lawrence Fisher was born on 29 November 1950, in San Francisco, California USA, and is an investment analyst and businessman best known for founding Fisher Investments, a money management firm that handles high profile individuals and institutions. He’s also written numerous books regarding investing and is a regular contributor in a monthly column of Forbes Magazine. His passion for economy, investing and ecology has brought his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Ken Fisher? Sources estimate that his net worth is at $3.3 billion, mostly accumulated through the great success of Fisher Investments, and he is now considered one of the largest wealth managers in the United States holding $68 billion. He used to own a two storey tree house in McKinleyville, California but has since moved his family to a house on King’s Mountain. His books and research have also helped in raising his wealth.

Kenneth is the son of Phillip A. Fisher, an investor best known for his book “Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits”. Growing up in San Mateo, California, Kenneth developed a love for redwood ecology which prompted him to study forestry at Humboldt State University. He eventually graduated with a degree in economics in 1972, believing that a big impact on the financial world would help redwood ecology. He founded Fisher Investments in 1979 with only $250 to his name. He completed various studies on investments and as the CEO helped build the company up to millions, and then billions, earning him a significant increase in personal net worth. During his studies and research, he was able to determine price-to-sales ratio (PSR) as a forecasting tool, and was also one of the first to offer small-cap value investing during the 1980s. Eventually, Fisher Investments expanded to the United Kingdom in 2000, and then opened an office in Vancouver, Washington as well. He along with Thomas Gruner also created Gruner Fisher Investments in Germany.

During his career, Ken has written 11 books on investing, four of which would become New York Times Bestsellers, including “The Only Three Questions That Count” (2006), “The Ten Roads to Riches” (2008), “How to Smell a Rat” (2009), and “Debunkery” (2010). His latest book is entitled “Beat the Crowd: How You Can Out-Invest the Herd by Thinking Differently”.

Even with his success in the business world, Fisher has still dedicated a lot of time to his love of forestry and to philanthropic work. He continues to study ecology and is considered an expert on 19th century logging, documenting around 35 abandoned mill sites in the northern Santa Cruz Mountains. He collected thousands of artifacts from the 19th century and even gave $3.5 million to endow the Kenneth L. Fisher Chair in Redwood Forest Ecology at Humboldt State, the first endowed chair dedicated to a single species. Fisher also contributes to the Redwoods and Climate Change, the San Mateo Public Library Foundation to establish the Kenneth and Sherrilyn Fisher Journalism Center, and John Hopkins University to establish Sherrilyn and Ken Fisher Center for Environmental Infectious Diseases.

For his personal life, not much else is known about Kenneth. He is married to Sherrilyn and they have three sons. He continues to pursue his passion on investing and ecology, stating that the pursuit of passion, not money, creates wealth.
