David Mikel Tyree, born on the 3rd of January, 1980, is a former professional American Football player, known for playing in the National Football League (NFL), and becoming particularly famous for his “helmet catch” during the 2008 Super Bowl Championship with his then team, the New York Giants.

So how much is Tyree’s net worth? As of mid-2017, based on authoritative sources it is reported to be $4 million, acquired from his years playing football, and now still working for the New York Giants.

Born in Livingston, New Jersey, Tyree had a rough childhood growing up. His parents divorced at an early age leaving him and his two other sisters to live with their mother. They moved to Montclair, New Jersey where he attended Montclair High School and discovered his love for sports, becoming part of the school’s football team in which he became a three-year varsity letterman, and later on led him to be selected as a Blue Chip Illustrated All-American. Aside from football, he was also known to participate in modern pentathlon.

Right after high school, Tyree accepted a scholarship from Syracuse University, and immediately joined the school’s football team. From playing on special teams during his freshman years, he worked his way to becoming the team’s wide receiver.

In 2003, after playing college football, Tyree was selected in the sixth round of the NFL Draft by the team of the New York Giants, which started his professional football career, and his net worth.

Tyree’s first years with the Giants were as a backup player. His addiction to alcohol and use of marijuana worsened his situation, affecting his performance. After turning his life around, in 2005 he was selected to play in the Pro Bowl, after years of waiting and training with the team.

One of the highlights of Tyree’s career came in the 2008 Super Bowl Championship, when his Giants team played against the New England Patriots. During the last minutes of the game with the Patriots on the lead, Giants’ quarterback Eli Manning passed the ball to Tyree and was able to catch it with his right hand holding it against his helmet while his left hand tries to fight off Patriots’ Rodney Harrison. The magnificent catch became known as the “helmet catch” that eventually brought the New York Giants the victory. His iconic catch made Tyree one of the renowned football players in recent history.

In 2009, Tyree left the Giants with a knee injury and later on got signed with the Baltimore Ravens. He was only able to appear in ten games with the Ravens, until he decided to return to the New York Giants to announce his retirement, so signing a one-day contract, a normal procedure with star players. His years playing in the NFL made him an icon in the world of sports, and tremendously increased his wealth.

Today, Tyree is still with the New York Giants, but this time serves as the team’s Director of Player Development.In terms of his personal life, Tyree has been married to Leilah since 2004, and together the couple has two sons and two daughters.
