Carlos Vives Wiki Biography
Carlos Alberto Vives Restrepo was born on 7 August 1961, in Santa Marta, Colombia, and is a singer, actor, and composer, but best known for his Grammy Award winning career. He’s been part of the acting industry since the 1980s, and soon found popularity in the music industry as well. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Carlos Vives? As of early-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is at $9 million, mostly earned through success in music. Some of the albums he has released include “No Podras Escapar de Mi”, “Tengo Fe”, and “Dejame Entrar”. He’s also been part of films such as “La Tele.”, and “David Copperfield”. As he continues his career it is expected that his wealth will increase.
After spending 12 years in Santa Marta, Vives’ family moved to Bogota. He attended Jorge Tadeo Lozano University and would complete a publicist degree. During his time in Bogota, he was influenced by the local music scene, especially rock music, and would soon start performing in cafes and bars around the city.
In 1982, Carlos started an acting career, and began appearing in telenovelas including “Tuyo es Mi Corazon”. Over four years he started to gain recognition and a significant increase in net worth while playing the titular character in “Gallito Ramirez”. He played a boxer in the series and in the same year would then release his debut album entitled “Por Fuera y Por Dentro”., but the album was filled with ballads and did not find any success. In 1987, he released another album called “No Padras Escapar de Mi” which also did not sell well. After his third ballad-filled album in “Al Centro de la Ciudad” he opted to move away from the genre.
In 1989, he moved to Puerto Rico because of an acting job opportunity, and appeared as the lead in “Aventurera” and “La Otra” during this time, meantime taking a break from the music industry. In 1991, Carlos returned to Columbia and was cast in the series “Escalona” which would propel his career forward. His net worth started to increase quickly, and as he sang Rafael Escalona’s songs, his music career was alto revitalized. Two albums were released as part of the show, including “Escalona: Un Canto a la Vida” and “Escalona: Vol. 2”. Two years later, he would release the Vallenato rock album “Clasicos de la Provincia” which found a bit of criticism. Despite that, the album was a huge success in numerous Latin countries, and would win the Best Album in the Billboard Latin Music Awards and become the reason the Vallenato genre would be introduced to the rest of the world.
Vives followed up this success with “La Tierra del Olvida”, which continued to fuse rock, pop, and funk with Colombian music. All of his next albums would find critical and commercial success; these include “Dejame Entrar”, “El Rock de Mi Pueblo”, and “Tengo Fe”. “Dejame Entrar” would win him his first Grammy award for Best Traditional Tropical Latin Album. In 2009, he returned to cover famous Vallenato songs in “Clasicos de la Provincia II” which again gained a huge amount of success. He created numerous hits in this period, including “Fruta Fresca” and “Tu Amor Eterno”.
In 2012, Vives released numerous songs including “Volvi a Nacer” which would reach the top spot on the charts. He also became part of the reality series “The Voice of Colombia” which aired in the same year. One of his latest projects is the song called” La Bicicleta” which featured another famous artist, Shakira, and debuted at the top of the Billboard’s US Latin Airplay chart.
For his personal life, it is known that Carlos was married to actress Margarita Rosa de Francisco but their marriage eventually ended. His next wife would be Herlinda Gomez and they had two children. He is now married to former Miss Colombia Claudia Elena Vasquez, and they have two children as well.
