Anthony Cris Collinsworth Wiki Biography
Anthony Cris Collinsworth was born on 27 January 1959, in Dayton, Ohio, USA. He is a television sportscaster and former professional American Football player for the National Football League’s (NFL) Cincinnati Bengals. His various endeavors as a player and after retirement, have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Cris Collinsworth? As of early-2016, sources estimate that his net worth is at $12 million, mostly earned through his current broadcast journalism career, as he reportedly earns around $2 million per year working as part of the NFL network and NBC. He’s also earned a significant amount of money as a football player, and is now also the owner of Pro Football Focus, a service that monitors football statistics.
Cris was born into a family of educators and his father was once a basketball player. With his father becoming a principal, the family moved to Titusville, Florida where Cris would attend Astronaut High School, the school where his father had become principal and later assistant superintendent. During high school, he played as quarterback and became the 100-yard dash state champion.
Due to his height and speed, many colleges approached Collinsworth to recruit him for college football. He accepted an athletic scholarship from the University of Florida and played for the Florida Gators football team. He originally played as a quarterback, but switched to wide receiver for a run-oriented offense. He would flourish as a wide receiver, earning rewards and recognitions for his remaining years in the university. He graduated with an accountancy degree.
In the 1981 NFL Draft, Cris was selected in the second round by the Cincinnati Bengals and was the 37th pick overall. He spent an eight-year career with the Bengals, earning three Pro Bowl appearances and surpassing 1,000 yards receiving four times. He was a good choice because he made a mismatch in height compared to opponent’s cornerbacks, and his speed made him a threat on the field. He and the team played in the Super Bowl XVI against San Francisco. Around 1985, he signed with the Tampa Bay Packers for the United States Football League (USFL) but was later released due to a bad ankle found during the physical exams. He returned to the Bengals and played until 1988, with his final game at the Super Bowl XXIII.
After his retirement, he went on to pursue a broadcasting career, as a radio sports talk show host on Cincinnati’s WLW before becoming a reporter for Showtime’s “Inside the NFL in 1989. A year later he became part of NBC’s “NFL Broadcasts” and then after eight years, joined “NFL on Fox” after NBC lost their broadcast rights to CBS. After working for Fox for many years, he returned to NBC in 2006 as an analyst for “Sunday Night NFL Coverage”. He became part of the NFL Network and also replaced John Madden in the high profile show “NBC’s Sunday Night Football”.
