Anne Murray was born on the 20th June 1945 in Springhill, Nova Scotia Canada, and is a country and pop singer, best known as the first Canadian superstar female singer who paved the way for such singers as Celine Dion, Shania Twain, and Sarah McLachlan. Her career started in 1968, and she retired in 2008.
Have you ever wondered how rich Anne Murray is, as of mid-2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Anne’s net worth is as high as $45 million, an amount earned through her successful career in music. In addition to being one of the greatest Canadian singers, Murray also had her television show, and published her autobiography both of which improved her wealth.
Morna Anne Murray is a daughter of Marion Margaret, a nurse, and James Carson Murray, a town doctor, and also has five brothers. Murray learned to play the piano for six years, and she also took voice lessons while at high school. She later studied at the Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax for a year, before she moved to the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton, from where she graduated with a Physical Education degree in 1966.
Anne moved to Toronto, and recorded her debut album “What About Me” in 1968 which wasn’t quite successful, but her second album “This Way Is My Way” (1969) produced the No. 1 single in Canada entitled “Snowbird”, which reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100. She recorded two albums “Anne Murray / Glen Campbell” (1971) and “Danny’s Song” (1973) that reached the Top 10 on the US Country chart in the early ’70’s, and the latter achieved gold status in Canada. Her net worth was well established.
Her ninth studio album. “Highly Prized Possession” (1974) also reached the Top 10 on the US Country chart, while her first album to achieve platinum status in Canada was “There’s a Hippo in My Tub” (1977). The next four albums “Let’s Keep It That Way” (1978), “New Kind of Feeling” (1979), “I’ll Always Love You” (1979) and “Somebody’s Waiting” (1980) topped the Canadian country charts and were highly popular in the US as well. “Let’s Keep It That Way” and “New Kind of Feeling” achieved platinum status in both Canada and the US, and significantly increased Murray’s net worth; she became a millionaire in the late ’70’s.
In the ’80’s, Murray recorded eight albums, and four of them “Where Do You Go When You Dream” (1981), “A Little Good News” (1983), “Heart over Mind” (1984), and “Something to Talk About” (1986) reached the Top 10 on the US Country chart, and achieved gold status in both countries. In the next twenty years, Murray continued to record studio albums, but they weren’t as successful as those in the ’70’s and ’80’s. However, “Croonin’” (1993), “What a Wonderful World” (1999), “Country Croonin’” (2002), and “Anne Murray Duets: Friends & Legends” (2007) were among notable ones, and added more money to Murray’s bank account.
Anne Murray has also recorded numerous compilations and live albums, with the most successful without a doubt being “Anne Murray’s Greatest Hits” (1980) that reached No. 1 on Canada Country, No. 2 on the US Country chart, and achieved 6x platinum in Canada and 4x platinum in the United States.
She has hosted various television shows including “Anne Murray in Nova Scotia”, “Intimate Evening with Anne Murray”, “A Special Anne Murray Christmas”, “Legends & Friends”, “What A Wonderful World”, “Ladies Night Show”, and “Anne Murray in Walt Disney World”. Murray also published her autobiography – “All of Me” – in 2009, and went on a 15-cities tour, starting in Nashville and ending in Ottawa.

Anne Murray Quotes
- [on the end of her run of hit records] It’s not great when it happens. It’s like looking in the mirror and seeing you have an old lady’s neck. You just have to maintain a sense of humor. [The Arizona Republic, May 10, 1998]
- I was in bare feet when we got married. It was great. [When the photographer backed into some candles] He had on a polyester suit and, boy, did it ever go up in flames. We had to break off the ceremony and push him our of the house and roll him around in the backyard to put out the flames. It was quite an wedding.
- In those days people were constantly trying to change me into a glamor baby. I remember having to wear white boots on ‘Wayne and Shuster’. I didn’t like them. They made me look like Nancy Sinatra, and I didn’t want to look like her. I wanted my hair short, but everyone wanted me to have long hair. I fought twenty-five years for my short hair. But in time, I smartened up and realized I at least had to put on some nice clothes.
- I was conscious about everything at the beginning. I got over my shyness, but I still don’t like cocktail parties. Early on, everybody wanted a piece of me. They were just grabbing at me on the one hand and looking down their noses at me on the other. I thought, ‘Get me the hell out of here.’ I was much better off in the United States because there they don’t care where you’re from.
- You know, I ain’t hurtin’ to be a star.
- Some of of the guys in my early years were into drugs and booze until I finally woke up to what was going on. We used to go through Chicago airport with these guys and I’d be scared to death. If we were there for more than an hour, almost all of them would get pissed. You never knew when you got to the boarding gate who was going to be in what kind of shape. It was horrible.
