Ian Gillan Wiki Biography
Ian Gillan, born on the 19 of August, 1945, is an English vocalist and lyricist, who became famous in the music industry with his bands most prominently with Deep Purple.
So how much is Gillan’s net worth? As of late 2016, based on authoritative sources it is reported to be $40 million, acquired from his years in the music industry, from the sales of his records to constant touring.
Born in Chiswick, London, England, Gillan is the son of Bill, who worked as a storekeeper at a factory in London, and Audrey, who was fond of music because of her father’s influence. Although he had a rough time growing up due to his parent’s eventual divorce, Gillan chose to focus on his studies and music.
Gillan first attended Hounslow College where he discovered his love for Elvis Presley and rock music. He later transferred to Acton County Grammar School to finish his O Levels, but his love for music eventually took over his interest and time.
Gillan’s early years as a singer consisted of joining numerous bands. Some of the groups that he had joined in the past included bands like Garth Rockett and the Moonshibers, The Javeluns, and Wainwright’s Gentlemen. Although most of his early bands disbanded due his early exposure to the music scene eventually helped his career and net worth.
After some time, Gillan eventually found a little bit of success with his new band Episode Six. The band became a regular at bars and clubs and has also toured around UK, Beirut and Germany. Despite the band’s success, Gillan felt that he lacked artistic freedom in the band, that’s why in 1969 he decided to leave.
In 1969 as well, Gillan joined the group Deep Purple. Even before he came into the band, Deep Purple was already receiving a little bit of success and has been producing chart-topping hits. These factors led Gillan to accept the band’s invitation to become their new vocalist.
Gillan toured and performed with the band until 1973, until he decided to quit. He realized that the non-stop work was too much for him, and his reliance to alcohol has become a problem with his band mates as well. After four years, Gillan submitted a resignation letter to the band’s manager and left. His years with Deep Purple, albeit short, helped his musical career and also his wealth.
After Deep Purple, Gillan continued his passion for music and created several bands of his own. In 1975, he started Ian Gillan Band and was able to release two albums, “Child in Time” and “Clear Air Turbulence”. Unfortunately, the band didn’t receive positive reactions from the fans. He decided to move forward and form a new band called Gillan.
Gillan received some success and even produced chart-topping singles like “Mr. Universe” and “Trouble”. These successes also helped in his career and net worth but he eventually chose to discontinue the band to rest his vocal chords.
In 1983, Gillan came back into the music scene by joining the group Black Sabbath. But his membership with the band didn’t last long when his formers with Deep Purple asked him to come back.
Gillan rejoined the band in 1984 until 1989 and once again in 1992 and onwards. In total, he was able to release 19 studio albums and 35 other live albums. He also still tours with band Deep Purple from time to time.
In terms of his personal life, Gillan married Bron Gillan in 1984 and together they have one daughter, Grace.
