Melvin Glover Wiki Biography

Melvin Glover was born on the 15th May 1961, in The Bronx, New York City, USA, and is a record producer, rapper and songwriter, best known to the world for being a part of the rap group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, with which he released two studio albums “The Message” (1982), and “On the Strength” (1988). His career started in 1978.

Have you ever wondered how rich Melle Mel is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Mel’s net worth is as high as $1.5 million, earned through his career in the music industry. Aside from being a part of the Grandmaster Flash and Furious Five, Melle has collaborated with other musicians, including Chaka Khan, Afrika Bambaataa and Keith LeBlanc, among others, which also improved his wealth.

Melle is a native of The Bronx, but has stated that his mother is Cherokee, which makes him half American native Indian. His growing up and education aren’t familiar in the media, however, his career beginnings have been exposed to the smallest details.

His career beginnings trace back to the late ‘70s, when he started calling himself MC (master of ceremonies), and in that way became the first rapper to have the prefix MC. He started the Furious Five group with his brother Nathaniel Glover – better known as Kid Creole – Scorpio, Rahiem and Cowboy. They added a DJ, Jospeh Saddler, better known as Grandmaster Flash, and started recording.

Their first release called “Supperrapin”, was in 1979 under Enjoy Records, and then they soon signed a recording contract with Sugar Hill Records. In the beginning, they became popular for their songs “Freedom” and “The Birthday Party”. The single, “Freedom”, became extremely popular and eventually achieved gold status, which only increased Melle’s net worth. In 1982 they released their debut studio album, called “The Message”, which reached No. 8 on the US R&B chart, and peaked at No. 53 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.

Unfortunately, the group divided in two, with Melle Mel assuming the name Grandmaster Melle Mel, followed by Cowboy and Scorpio, and continued to release music, until the two fragments reunited for their second studio album, entitled “On the Strength”, released in 1988. However, the album was nowhere near the success of its predecessor, which resulted in permanent disbanded of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five.

When it comes on Melle Mel’s group, they released three albums – “Grandmaster Melle Mel and the Furious Five” in 1984, “Stepping Off” (1985), and “Piano” (1989). Melle Mel had other projects, including the album with Scorpio called “Right Now”, released in 1997, then collaboration with pop star Lady Gaga “The Portal In The Park”, and a solo album in 2007 entitled “Muscles”, which also increased his net worth.

Most recently, he reunited with Scorpio and the two released the single “Some Kind of Sorry” (2016), under the name Grandmaster’s Furious Five ft. Melle Mel & Scorpio.Regarding his personal life, information about Melle’s marital status and any children remains unavailable to the public.
