Bret Hart Wiki Biography

Bret Hart was born on 2 July 1957, in Calgary, Alberta Canada. People who are interested in professional wrestling, might know him by his nickname “The Hit Man”. While mostly known as a retired star of professional wrestling, Bret Hart is also a published writer and an actor.

So how rich currently is Bret Hart? Sources estimate his net worth to have reached an impressive amount of $14 million, the largest part of that amount Bret accumulated during the years of his successful career as a professional wrestler.

Bret Hart is one of the eight sons of professional wrestler Stu Hart. Their whole family has been involved in professional wrestling in one way or another, and it wasn’t a big surprise when Bret joined “Stampede Wrestling” promotion which then belonged to his father. Bret began practicing amateur wrestling while still in high school, and in 1974 won his first medal. Even though it was just a city competition, Bret later revealed that it has been one of the most important achievements in his life as it changed his relationship with his father and gave him a lot of courage which later helped him to pursue his career on a professional level.

When he was studying film-making at Mount Royal College, Bret realized that he no longer enjoyed amateur wrestling, and began looking for something else. Bret later explained that at this time of his life he still wanted to please his father and that is the main reason he chose to start wrestling professionally. At first, Bret worked as a referee in his father’s promotion, but soon became one of the regular wrestlers there. However, the most influential rise in his net worth began in 1997 when he joined the World Championship Wrestling (WCW) and signed a contract, which meant that he would earn $2.5 million every year for three years. At that time, Bret was considered by his fans and himself as one of the best professional wrestlers in the world.

In 1999, one of his brothers, Owen Hart died in an accident trying to perform a dangerous trick. This affected Bret, and he took a few months off from his professional career in WCW, then briefly returned to the ring and won the WCW’s “World Tag Team” championship. In the same year he was forced to retire after receiving a number of head injuries during fights against a famous professional wrestler Bill Goldberg. Even after the end of his career as a professional wrestler, Bret continued to appear in various wrestling events on television, he also appeared in a few movies and videos, also in a theater play of “Aladdin” as a Genie.

While writing isn’t the main source of Bret Hart’s income, it obviously had some influence. His most successful book entitled “Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling” is an autobiography released in 2007, in which he talks about his career including his injuries, and how it really was for him.

In his personal life, Bret has been married three times. He has four children with his first wife Julie Smadu(1982-2002) – daughters Jade Michele and Alexandria Sabina, sons Dallas Jeffery and Blade Colton. Bret was married to Cinzia Rota(2004-07), and is now married to Stephanie Washington.

Bret Hart Quotes

  • You really didn’t know how good you could wrestle in 1984. It mattered how big your arms were and how you looked under the light with baby oil all over you. No one said you have to take steroids, but the truth is that’s what it was. If you wanted to be a star, you’d take steroids because everybody else is taking them. It kind of got, like, if you want to keep your job you’ve got to get competitive with everyone else.
  • I don’t beat myself over the head with it, but I’ve always wished I’d been with [the WWF] when Owen’s accident happened.
  • [after winning the WWE Championship for the first time] I dedicate this moment to anyone who still believes the biggest dreams still come true.
  • Every hero becomes a bore at last.
  • We are never prepared for what we expect.
  • No one is more proud of being Canadian that I am.
  • I still take being a positive role model for kids very seriously, and I even enjoy the responsibility that goes along with it.
  • [about “modern” wrestling] My kids don’t watch wrestling. They don’t want to. And if they did want to, as a parent, I wouldn’t let them. I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again: wrestling is not for kids anymore.
  • I don’t respect you. You don’t deserve it.
  • You scratch my back and I’ll stab yours.
  • I am the best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be”
