Vincent Johnson, born on 1st September 1956 in Brooklyn, New York City USA, is a former basketball player, who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Seattle SupersSonics, Detroit Pistons and San Antonio Spurs for 14 seasons. His career started in 1979 and ended in 1992.

Vinnie grew up in his hometown, and went to Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School, after which he enrolled at McLennan Communitiy College in Waco, Texas, where he spent two years before switching to Baylor University. While at McLennan, Vinnie became one of the best shooters in his class, and led his team to the national tournament, which earned him a junior college All-American honors. He continued successfully at Baylor University, becoming one of the best scorers in the history of college, holding the record for most point scored in a single game at 50, and for points per game average.

After graduation, he declared for the 1979 NBA Draft, in which he was selected as the 7th overall pick by the Seattle SuperSonics, where he played until 1981, but without any major success. That year he was traded to the Detroit Pistons, where he covered both guard positions, entering from the bench to replace Isiah Thomas or Joe Dumars. In his first season with the Pistons, Vinnie played in 67 games, and averaged 15.8 points with 4.3 rebounds. Over the years he became known for scoring a many points in a short time, for which he earned the nickname “The Microwave”, given by Dany Ainge, Boston Celtic`s player at the time. Vinnie stayed in Detroit until the 1991 season, becoming a great part of Detroit`s team which won two consecutive NBA Finals, in 1989 by sweeping Los Angeles Lakers, while the next year they won against the Portland Trailblazer 4-1, with Vinnie scoring the last point at 0.7 seconds to give his team a victory and the title; thanks to the made shot, he earned a new nickname, “007”.

After the Pistons, he spent a season in San Antonio playing for the Spurs in 60 games and averaging 8.0 points, 2.4 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. Vinnie ended his career with 11,825 points, 3,212 assists and 3,109 rebounds.

As an honor to his contribution to the team, the Pistons retired Vinnie`s jersey No. 15 in 1994.

Following his retirement, Vinnie found a way to stay with the Pistons, working as radio analyst for Detroit`s games. Also, in 1995 he started the auto-supply company Pistons Automotive, and serves as chairman of the Piston Group, which employs over 200 people in Detroit.
