Troy James Smith, born on 20 July, 1984, is an American Football player, who became famous for playing with various teams in the National Football League and for winning the Heisman Trophy in 2006.

So how much is Smith’s net worth? As of late 2016, based on authoritative sources his net worth is $1.5 million, acquired from his years in playing American Football.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Smith had a hard time growing up. His mother has an addiction problem with drugs and alcohol that led to her being arrested and Smith ending up going to foster care. But despite these setbacks, he decided to focus in school and excel in sports. He first attended St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio where he played basketball. Unfortunately, after hitting an opposing player during a game, he was removed from the school.Smith then transferred to Glenville High School and started playing American Football. He played under the leadership of Coach Ted Ginn Sr., and he performed exceptionally well during his high school years. But despite his feats, only two schools offered to recruit him to play for their team.

Eventually, Smith decided to accept a football scholarship at Ohio State University and he joined the team in 2002. In 2003, he began playing for the Buckeyes as a running back and kick returner. After the team’s quarterback had an injury, he was then selected to play the part of the quarterback and it became his big break in college football. He not only started winning games, he eventually also won a couple of awards.

One of the most notable Smith has ever have will probably the Heisman Memorial Trophy in 2006. Smith took the first place with a score of 91.6%, the highest in the award’s history.

With his outstanding performance in college, Smith was recruited in 2007 by the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League. He signed a three-year contract with the team, catapulting him to fame and also increasing his net worth. He stayed with the team until 2010 until he signed with San Francisco 49ers.

Although Smith showed great performance as quarterback with the 49ers, he was not re-signed by the team due to the coach’s decision to pursue another player. Smith then decided to move forward and in 2011 got signed by the Omaha Nighthawks. After staying for only one year with the team, he once again moved the following year this time with Pittsburgh Steelers but onl stayed for a couple of months.

In 2013, Smith signed a two-year contract with Canadian Football League team, Montreal Alouettes. Unfortunately, his poor performance led to his release in 2014.

Today, Smith is back to school and attending Ohio State University to get a graduates degree. He is also working as a graduate assistant at the university.
