Tommie Harris, Jr. was born on the 29th April 1983 in Killeen, Texas USA, and is a retired professional American Football defensive tackle, who played eight seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the Chicago Bears (2004-2010), Indianapolis Colts (2011), and San Diego Chargers (2011). During his career, Tommie made three Pro Bowl appearances and was once named into Second-team All-Pro.

According to some reports, Tommie was born in Germany, but he grew up in Killeen, Texas, where he went to Ellison High School, and started playing football for the Ellison Eagles, and was regarded as one of the top defensive prospects in the nation. Aside from football, he excelled in track and field, competing in the shotput.

After high school matriculation, Tommie enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he continued with his football career, playing under coach Bob Stoops for the Oklahoma Sooners football team. During his college career, Tommie received a Lombardi Award, then Bill Willis Trophy, and was named two times as Consensus All-American, in 2002 and 2003, and being named into First-team All-Big 12 the same years.

In 2004 he declared for the NFL Draft, and was selected by the Chicago Bears in the first round as the 14th overall pick. In his rookie season, Tommie played in all 16 games, posting 58 total tackles with 3.5 sacks, and coming second in voting for the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award, behind Jonathan Vilma. Tommie continued successfully the following season, having 37 tackles, and 3.0 sacks, which earned him his first Pro Bowl appearance. He continued in the same way until 2007, earning two more Pro Bowl appearances, despite missing several games due to a severe hamstring injury. In 2007, he and his team reached the Super Bowl, however, they lost to the Indianapolis Colts.

Before the 2008 season started, Tommie signed a new contract with the Bears, worth $40 million over four years, which included several bonuses that stacked up to $19 million more. However, his playing time since 2007 and the hamstring injury had declined, which reflected in his game numbers. As a result, Tommie was released by the Bears in February 2011.

After the Bears, Tommie joined the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year contract, however, he failed to make an appearance, and was released by the Colts in September 2011. His career didn’t end there, as he joined San Diego Chargers, and played in 13 games of the 2011 season, making 13 tackles and 3.0 sacks, but after the season ended, Tommie retired.

Tommie finished his career with 226 tackles, 31.5 quarterback tackles, and one interception.

After retirement, Tommie became the co-owner with Eric Bassey of the Texas Outlaws, a football team that played in the Fall Experimental Football League, but unfortunately, the team folded in 2015.
