Magnus Carlsen Wiki Biography

Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen was born on the 30th November, 1990 in Tønsberg, Vestfold, Norway. He is a chess grandmaster, which holds the highest ranking in the world, and he has been the World Chess Champion since 2013, plus he owns the highest peak rating in chess history which is 2882. Magnus Carlsen has been playing chess professionally since 2004.

How much is the net worth of Magnus Carlsen? Reportedly, his wealth stands at $8 million, largely earned through his proficiency in chess.

To begin with, Magnus learned to play chess somewhat late, being eight years old, although he apparently showed an aptitude for intellectual challenges at a young age. However, he obviously learned quickly, and became the silver medallist under the age of 12 at the World Championship 2002, behind the Russian Jan Nepomniacsij only on a tie-break. He was taught by his coach and role model Simon Agdesteintől (Simon Edelstein), but dazzling memory, great combinations, enjoying the game, a humble attitude, and an ever-smiling face has seen him become extremely popular among competitors and organizers. Garry Kasparov praised his playing as great, and called him the greatest talent.

On the 26th April 2004, Carlsen became a grandmaster at the age of 13 years and 148 days, which made him the second youngest Grandmaster of all time. His performance in September-October 2009 in the Tournament Pearl Spring in Nanjing was described as one of the best of all time, and took him to increase his Elo to 2801 points, the second in the world at the time. He is the fifth player who has achieved a score above 2800, and at the age of 18 by far the youngest person to do so. He was also titled as the World Champion in 2009, the youngest in history. In the list of FIDE Elo according to the data of the 1st January 2010, at the age of 19 years and 32 days, he became the youngest player in history to be the world number 1, breaking the record previously set by Vladimir Kramnik. In a list of FIDE Elo made in January 2013, he gathered in total of 2,861 points, surpassing the record of 2,851 which was set by Garry Kasparov in July 1999. Carlsen qualified for the Tournament candidates that took place in March-April 2013, and won. He also won the right to challenge the reigning world champion Viswanathan Anand in the World Chess Championship 2013, in a game that he won and so became the 16th World Champion. At the end of 2014 he revalidated the title by beating Anand again.

To cut the long story short, according to the list Rating of FIDE (January 2018) Magnus had an Elo of 2834 points, making Carlsen the number one player (in assets) in Norway and the world number one player; in fact he has been classified as world number one since July 2011. His highest Elo was 2882 points in the list as of May, 2014 (1st world ranking position). He is the winner of five Chess Oscars (2009 – 2013) and many other awards.

Aside from chess, with American actress Liv Tyler, Carlsen modelled for G-Star Raw’s 2010 advertising campaign, then in February 2014, with actress and model Lily Cole he appeared in their Spring/Summer  campaign.

In  2013, Carlsen started his company, Play Magnus AS, based in Oslo,  with the  first product an app called Play Magnus, that allows the user to play a chess engine which utilises Carlsen’s recorded games, hopefully  encouraging more people to play chess.

In 2013, Carlsen became an ambassador for Nordic Semiconductor, and the same year was  selected as one of the “sexiest men” by “Cosmopolitan” magazine.

In 2017, Carlsen made a  guest appearance in an episode “The Simpsons”, in  which Homer’s chess history is revealed.

Finally, in the personal life of the chess master, as of October 2017, Carlsen is in a relationship with Norwegian Synne Christin Larsen. He is known to mostly follow a vegetarian diet
