Born Todd Benjamin Heap on the 16th March 1980, in Mesa, Arizona USA, he is a retired American Football tight end, who played 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the Baltimore Ravens (2001-2010), and Arizona Cardinals (2011-2012). During his career, Todd earned two Pro-Bowl selections in 2002 and 2003, and made the All-Pro team in 2003.

Todd was raised as a Mormon in a family of six children. Todd’s mother is related to Danny White, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback. He went to Mountain View High School in his hometown, where he started playing football, even gaining a Mountain 5A Player of the Year honor, following a 26-yard touchdown pass in the state championship game.

After matriculation he enrolled at Arizona State University. where he continued his football career. He set the record for most receptions by a tight end with 115. He majored in pre-business, before declaring for the NFL Draft.

In 2001 NFL Draft, Todd was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the first round as the 31st overall pick, and in his rookie season played in 12 games, six of which were starts and caught 16 passes which was enough for 206 yards and one touchdown. The following season he was promoted to starting tight end, since Ravens’ starting tight end Shannon Sharpe, decided to leave the club.

Todd played all 16 games and had 836 yards from 68 receptions and scored six touchdowns, which earned him his first Pro-Bowl selection. He continued in the same rhythm the following year catching 57 passes for 693 yards and three touchdowns, although the Ravens were focused more on running offense. He was again called up for the Pro-Bowl game, which turned out to be his last appearance. In 2004 Todd played in only six games due to an injury, and had 303 yards from 27 receptions. He returned to starting line-up for the 2005 season and had his career high season, with 855 yards and seven touchdowns. Todd continued to play in great form until late in 2010 season, helping Ravens to reach AFC Championship game in 2008. In 2011 he played in 10 games, but suffered an injury that would keep him sidelined for the last three games of the season. Todd was released by the team on the 28th July 2011.

After the Ravens, Todd signed a contract worth $5.5 million over two years with the Arizona Cardinals, which only increased his net worth, however, his stint with the Cardinals ended prematurely, as he was released on the 4th December 2012. His numbers declined drastically while in Arizona and also he spent more time injured than playing.

He officially retired the following year, then in 2014 he was inducted into the Baltimore Ravens Ring of Honor. He finished his career with one reception shy from the 500 mark, 5,869 receiving yards, and 42 touchdowns.

Regarding his personal life, Todd has been married to Ashley since 2001; the couple had five children together, but tragically their daughter,Holly Alivia died in a car accident in April this year – Todd hit her with his truck in the driveway of the family home.
