Thomas DeCarlo Callaway Wiki Biography
Thomas DeCarlo Callaway was born on the 30th May 1974, in Atlanta, Georgia USA, and is a musician, songwriter as well as a record producer who, under the alias CeeLo Green, is probably best known for being a member of the soul duo Gnarls Barkley, and as a multiple Grammy Award-winning rapper. Some of his most famous works include albums such as “St. Elsewhere”, and numerous hit singles including “Crazy”, “Fuck You” and “Fool for You”.
Have you ever wondered how much wealth this successful musician has accumulated so far? How rich CeeLo Green is? According to sources, it is estimated that the total of Green’s net worth, as of late 2017, exceeds the sum of $22 million, acquired through his career in the music industry, active since 1994.
CeeLo was born into a family of ordained ministers, and after his father died when he was only two years old, he was raised by his mother Sheila J. Tyler-Callaway who was also a volunteer firefighter; she died when CeeLo was 18 years old. After matriculating from Riverside Military Academy, in 1991 alongside T-Mo, Big Gipp and Khujo, CeeLo founded a hip hop group named Goodie Mob. In the course of the next several years, apart from being featured on Outkast’s 1994 album “Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik”, the group in 1995 released their own debut studio album, entitled “Soul Food”. The album was warmly received by the critics as well as audience, becoming a genuine commercial success. All these early ventures helped CeeLo Green to dive into the music industry, also providing the basis for his net worth.
By the end of the 1990s, Goodie Mob had released two more studio albums – “Still Standing” and “World Party” which, although commercially successful, failed to outperform the commercial success of their predecessor. In 1999, CeeLo collaborated with Carlos Santana on his album “Supernatural”, after which he decided to put some efforts towards his solo career. In 2002 he released his debut solo album entitled “Cee-Lo Green and His Perfect Imperfections”, but which failed to gain notable commercial success. However, all these endeavors helped CeeLo Green to add a sum to the total of his net worth.
In 2004, he released his second solo album “Cee-Lo Green… Is the Soul Machine”, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart. Later in 2004, CeeLo teamed up with DJ Danger Mouse, and formed the soul duo Gnarls Barkley, which resulted in the 2006 Grammy-winning studio album “St. Elsewhere”, featuring the hit single “Crazy” which peaked at No. 1 on several charts, in the UK as well as the USA. In 2008 the duo released their second studio album – “The Odd Couple” – which was followed by CeeLo Green’s greatest hits collection album entitled “Closet Freak: The Best of Cee-Lo Green the Soul Machine”. All these achievements increased the total of CeeLo Green’s wealth by a large margin.
In 2010, Green released “Fuck You”, the single which quickly went viral, becoming a huge commercial success and earning him a prestigious Grammy Award, after its “sanitized” version, entitled “Forget You” peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, later that year he released another solo album “The Lady Killer” which was later rated platinum. In mid-2011, Green joined the production of NBC TV’s “The Voice”, on which he served as one of the judges. Some of his most recent involvements include his latest album “Heart Blanche”, as well as appearing in Budapest, Hungary, in the opening ceremony of the 2017 World Aquatics Championship. It is certain that all these accomplishments have dramatically boosted the popularity and the overall income of CeeLo Green.
CeeLo Green has also put some efforts towards his acting career – he debuted on the big screen in 1999, by making a cameo appearance in the superhero comedy movie “Mystery Men”, since when he has added over a dozen more acting credits to his professional portfolio, including notable appearances in TV series “Robot Chicken”, “CeeLo Green’s the Good Life” and “Teen Titans Go!”, as well as in movies such as a voice acting role in “Hotel Transylvania”. He has also been involved in almost 140 original soundtracks, including for “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Saturday Night Live”, “The Twilight Saga”, as well as “The Big Short” and “Moonlight”, to name a few. Doubtlessly, all these engagements have helped CeeLo Green to significantly enlarge the total of his current net worth.
When it comes to his personal life, Green was married to Christina Johnson with whom he welcomed a son before they divorced in 2005; he was also stepfather to her two daughters from a previous relationship.
