Thomas Bangalter Wiki Biography
Thomas Bangalter was born on the 3rd January 1975, in Paris, France and is a Grammy Award-winning musician, record producer, singer/songwriter and DJ, best known as one of the members of the French house duo Daft Punk. Bangalter is also associated with Stardust, Together, and Arcade Fire, and composed music for the movie “Irreversible” (2002). His career started in the early’90s.
Have you ever wondered how rich Thomas Bangalter is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Bangalter’s net worth is as high as $70 million, an amount earned through his successful career in the music industry. In addition to his enormous success with Daft Punk, Bangalter has also worked with several other bands, which improved his wealth too.
Thomas is a son of Daniel Vangarde, who was a well-known songwriter and producer; he began playing piano at the age of six. Bangalter went to the Lycée Carnot School, where he met Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and the two of them formed a band called Darlin’, along with Laurent Brancowitz.
After a particularly negative review from Melody Maker magazine described their music as “a daft punky thrash”, Bangalter and Guy-Manuel got an idea for their band’s new name, so they formed Daft Punk in 1993. The band’s debut studio album “Homework” came out in 1997; it achieved gold status in the US, and platinum in both France and the UK. The release reached the No. 150 on US Billboard 200 and No. 8 on UK Albums charts, while the singles “Da Funk” and “Around the World” received Grammy Award nominations for Best Dance Recording in 1998 and 1999, respectively. In February 2001, Daft Punk released their second album – “Discovery” – which achieved gold status in the US and platinum in Europe. It peaked at the No. 23 on US Billboard 200, No. 6 on UK Albums, and topped the US Top Catalog Albums. The song “One More Time” received a Grammy Award nomination for the Best Dance Recording in 2002. – Thomas’ net worth benefited accordingly!
In 2005, they recorded “Human After All”, and the album was nominated for the Best Electronic/Dance Album at the Grammy Awards in 2006; it reached No. 98 on US Billboard 200, No. 10 on UK Albums, and was first on the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums. The singles “Human After All”, “The Prime Time of Your Life”, “Robot Rock”, and “Technologic” were among the most popular ones, and the commercial success of the album helped the band and Bangalter to increase his net worth significantly.
In 2009, Daft Punk finally won their first and the second Grammy Awards for the live album “Alive 2007”, and the single “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Alive 2007)”. Their latest release “Random Access Memories” came out in 2013, and it is Daft Punk’s most successful album yet, achieving platinum status in both the US and UK, while it topped all three of the Billboard 200, UK Albums and the US Top Dance/Electronic Albums charts. The album earned them four Grammy Awards too, in categories the Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronica Album, while the song “Get Lucky” (featuring Pharrell Williams) won the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year in 2014.
Thomas Bengalter also works in the movie industry, as he composed the music for the Gaspar Noe mystery film called “Irresversible” (2002), starring Monica Bellucci, Vincent Cassel and Albert Dupontel. He and Guy-Manuel De Homem-Christo directed “Electroma” in 2006, and then made music for the Oscar Award-nominated movie “TRON: Legacy” (2010) with Jeff Bridges in the lead role. In the meantime, Bengalter also composed music for Gaspar Noe’s fantasy-drama called “Enter the Void” (2009). He will be a co-producer on Arcade Fire’s latest album, “Everything Now”, which will start recording late in 2017.
Regarding his personal life, Thomas Bengalter is married to Élodie Bouchez, a French actress, and has two sons with her. Thomas owns residence in Beverly Hills, California, but currently lives in his hometown, Paris.
