Aaron Dontez Yates, to the audiences known by his stage name of Tech N9ne, is a famous American rap artist. At the beginning of his career, Tech N9ne was perhaps best known as a member of a hip hop collective called “The Regime”. Created by Yukmouth, the group originally included N9ne, Govnormatic, Poppa LQ, Madmax, Phats Bossi and Dizzle Don.
In 1999, Tech N9ne together with Travis O’Guin founded an independent record label entitled “Strange Music”, which is located in Missouri. Some of the artists who are currently signed to the label include Big Scoob, Krizz Kaliko, Stevie Stone, Prozak and Murs. Later that year, Tech N9ne came out with his debut studio album called “The Calm before the Storm”. Even though the album failed to generate large public interest, the song “Questions” made it to the soundtrack of Jim Kouf’s crime film “Gang Related”, starring Tupac Shakur and James Belushi. Tech N9ne’s debut album was followed by “The Worst”, which came out in 2000, and “Anghellic”, which was released in 2001. The latter album is considered to be an iconic album in the horrorcore genre. “Anghellic” managed to spawn one single under the name of “It’s Alive”, while “Tormented” was featured in a television series called “Dark Angel” with Jessica Alba and Michael Weatherly. With the release of “Anghellic”, Tech N9ne’s music started to receive more public exposure. Up to date, Tech N9ne has released 14 studio albums, the most recent being “Strangeulation”, which came out in 2014.
