Christopher Dorsey Wiki Biography

Christopher Dorsey, better known under his stage name B.G., was born on 3 September 1980, in Uptown, New Orleans, Louisiana USA, of African-American descent. He is a rapper, who rose to prominence as one of the first rappers on Cash Money Records, later becoming a member of the rap group Hot Boys, while also establishing a successful solo career that spawned the hit album “Chopper City in the Ghetto” with its hit single “Bling Bling”.

So just how loaded is B.G. at present? According to sources, B.G. has amassed a wealth of over $2 million, as of mid-2017. His net worth has been gathered during his music career from the early ‘90s.

B.G. grew up in Uptown’s 13th Ward, in quite a rough childhood. He attended New Orleans’ Marion Abramson High School, but didn’t matriculate. After his father was killed when he was 12 years old, he turned to street life, leaving school and dealing drugs. During this time he also began to rap, and was introduced to Brian ‘Baby’ and Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams, the heads of the then fledgling Cash Money Records label, who teamed him with then unknown Lil Wayne, into a duo called The B.G.z. They released their debut album, True Story, in 1995, and three more albums followed by 1997, being mainly B.G.’s solo efforts., and thus he adopted the B.G. moniker. His net worth began to rise.

During this time, the group The Hot Boys was formed, consisting of B.G., Lil Wayne, Juvenile and Young Turk. They went on to release their debut album, the 1997 “Get It How U Live!”, prior to Cash Money’s signing a major-label distribution deal with Universal Records. The year 1999 saw the release of B.G.’s album “Chopper City in the Ghetto”, which achieved nationwide success, spawning the hit single “Bling Bling”, thus popularizing the term. The triumph of its success shot the rapper to stardom, and his wealth was boosted, which he began to show off by wearing multiple Rolex watches, gold teeth and necklaces, celebrating his success.

The same year The Hot Boys released their second album, “Guerrilla Warfare”, which was a great success as well, scoring hits with singles “We on Fire” and “I Need a Hot Girl”. All added to B.G.’s fortune.

He went on to release the album “Checkmate” in 2000, his final album with Cash Money Records, leaving the label due to a dispute over money. Two years later he formed his own label, Chopper City Records, signing a deal with Koch Records and releasing the album “Livin’ Legend” in 2003. The next year his album “Life After Cash Money” came out, followed by “The Heart of tha Streetz, Vol. 1” in 2005 and “The Heart of tha Streetz, Vol. 2” in 2006. With all three albums being great commercial successes, B.G.’s fame as a true hip-hop star was cemented, and his wealth was greatly improved.

2007 saw B.G. signing with Atlantic Records, and founding an affiliate group called the Chopper City Boyz, with whom he released the 2007 “We Got This” and the 2008 “Life in the Concrete Jungle” albums, further expanding his fortune. After his album “Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood” came out in 2009, he released a couple of mixtapes, and one street album.

However, B.G.’s career was stopped in 2012 when he was sentenced to 14 years in prison. Reportedly, he was arrested back in 2009 when police stopped him in New Orleans and found three guns, two of which being reported stolen, a loaded magazine, two extended clips and some drugs as well. Around three years later, the rapper was sentenced to federal prison for illegal gun possession and witness tampering.

When it comes to his private life, B.G. has one son, rapper T.Y. – the boy’s mother is unknown.
