To begin with, Susan grew up in Hollywood, where as a teenager she created roles in the theatre, following her mother, Elizabeth Harrower (1918 – 2003), who was an actress and screenwriter. Her father, Harry Seabold, stayed abroad during World War II.
For more than three decades beginning in the 1960s, the actress appeared in numerous soap operas and episodes in series. The most popular was her role as Julie Olson Williams in the opera “Days of Our Lives” (1968 – 1984, 1990 – 1993, 1994, 1996, 1999 – present). For this role she has received four nominations for Emmy Awards, in 1975, 1976, 1978 and 1979 – she is the only actress left in the series from the original cast. Together with actor Bill Hayes, portraying Doug Williams in “Days of Our Lives”, they created the first and the most famous pair in American soap operas. Their serial romance has also moved to private life. Susan and Bill married on the 12th October 1974. In 1984, after leaving the cast of “Days of Our Lives”, Hayes was given the role of Joanna Manning Fenmore in the opera “The Young and the Restless” in which she starred up to 1989, then in 2005, 2006 and 2010, appearing in the series as a guest star. In 1987, the actress had been offered the opportunity to create the role of Stephanie Douglas Forrester, one of the main characters in the emerging soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful”. The actress rejected the offer without knowing that in the future this would be the world’s most famous show. Eventually, Stephanie’s role was given to Susan Flannery, with whom Hayes worked in “The Days of Our Lives”, but in 2003, Hayes made a guest appearance in the aforementioned series as Joanne Manning Fenmore. In addition to this, Susan portrayed the recurring character D.A. Patricia Steele in the soap opera “Sunset Beach” (1999) aired on NBC.
In 2005, Susan and her husband released an autobiography “Like Sands Through The Hourglass”, and to conclude, all the above mentioned engagements have increased the total size of Susan Seaforth Hayes’ net worth.
