She moved to New York City at the age of 18 and would attend the American Musical and Acting Academy as well as the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute. She moved to Los Angeles to audition for “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”, and was cast in the role of Pink Power Ranger Kimberly Ann Hart. One of the reasons she was chosen was because of her gymnastics background, and the show would gain a significant amount of success. She left the show in 1995, and would then appear in “Susie Q” and “Saved by the Bell: The New Class” which were produced by Disney. Two years later she became a part of “Killing Mr. Griffin” which was based on a novel, and “Perfect Body”. She then reprised her role of Kimberly Hart in the film “Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie”. In 1998, she was cast in the series “Felicity” and became part of the show for three years, making several appearances during the fourth and final season.

In the 2000s, she continued appearing in various shows such as “ER” and “Spin City”. She then appeared in the fourth season of “The Division”, and would go on and make a string of television movies, including “Fatal Trust” and “Magma: Volcanic Disaster”. She then tried her hand at independent films, with “Islander” and “Veritas, Prince of Truth”. In 2008, she became a cast member of “Flashpoint” and was subsequently nominated for a Gemini Award thanks to her performances. One of her latest series is “Covert Affairs” in which she has a recurring role.

Amy Jo Johnson Quotes

  • My fondest memory of Power Rangers was just being a kid and hanging out with the cast and crew. We had such a great time on and off set. We were like a family. Lots of very fun parties and laughs.
  • [on the question if she likes behind the scenes work in oppose to acting] Yes, I do. I feel more comfortable behind the camera for some reason. I think it’s where I was meant to be. The 20 years I spent in front of the camera has been the best training ground on so many levels for me. I do still enjoy acting, but my heart is in writing and directing.
  • [Being asked if she would make a cameo in any of the upcoming Power Rangers films] I did hear about this and would absolutely do a cameo in these films if I were asked. What fun would that be!
  • [on asking if she kept any props from her time on the Power Rangers show] I wish I did!! Would come in handy right now with our Indiegogo campaign for my first feature film The Space Between. Ah well…
  • [on her transition from kids shows to drama shows] I think I just grew up. At a certain point I’m just not a kid anymore. But boy did I ride that out! I was 28 years old when I played Julie Emrick on Felicity. Love that!!
  • My mom taught me to go after my dreams. I have this faith in myself that I must have gotten from her. I believe I can do anything. If I decide I want to be a doctor tomorrow, I’m going to be a doctor. Amy Jo Johnson, discussing memories of her mother; Teen People, December 1999
