Steve Huffman is an American web-based entrepreneur, born on 12 November 1983, in The Plains, Virginia USA. He is a web developer, probably best known as the co-founder of Reddit, a social network site, and also Hipmunk, an airfare search site.

So what is the worth of Steve Huffman? As of early 2016, Huffman is estimated to have a net worth of $4 million. A worth accrued from his web based technology entrepreneurship and other duty calls.

Huffman attended Wakefield School in The Plains, and while in school he was able to program a calculator to help him solve arithmetic questions. He then graduated in computer science from the University of Virginia. His journey to the technology entrepreneurship started after his university education. He had an idea, collaborated with his colleague Alexis Ohanian and got help from Paul Graham to kick start the social network site Reddit. The site which was primarily designed to be a food ordering app changed when they were denied funding by Y Combinator. Graham invited them to come up with a different idea, and after some deliberations they decided to build a social network site. $12,000 funding was then approved by Y Combinator to start Reddit, which began as a simple site in 2005 with few users, but currently has about 240 million users. He also worked on the site breadpig, which was funded by Ohanian. His net worth was growing.

In October 2006, Reddit was sold to Conde Nast, however Huffman continued to head its operations. His love for technology made him link up with Adam Goldstein to create Hipmunk, which was also funded by Y Combinator. Hipmunk provides information on airfares, schedules, organizes data and other vital information to make travelling simple and comfortable. The site became successful and was able to raise an amount of $20 million in funding and revenue mobilization. Huffman was mentioned in Inc. magazine’s 30 under 30 list in 2011. Huffman was appointed CEO of Reddit after Ellen Pao resigned in July 2015. Huffman has never hid his regret in selling Reddit and sees it as a mistake. He said they were not thinking big enough at that time, and sold it out of naivety. He is quoted to have said “Marking out a path for the development is essential, but there is some flexibility required as the path may change”. He never dreamt Reddit would be so successful, and attract the number and type of users it has now. Regardless, his net worth continues to grow.

In his new field as Co-founder of Hipmunk, Huffman believes that there is a different between running Reddit and Hipmunk; he says Reddit is social and addictive, but Hipmunk is not and this is because people travel few times and usage cannot be the same.
