Stephen Curry Wiki Biography
Wardell Stephen Curry II was born on 14 March 1988, in Akron, Ohio USA, and is a professional basketball player, best known to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for the Golden State Warriors. He is considered by many analysts as the greatest shooter in NBA history. He’s been active in the sport professionally since 2009, and all of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Stephen Curry? As of late-2017, sources estimate a net worth that is close to $50 million, mostly earned through success in professional basketball. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will also continue to increase.
Stephen attended Queensway Christian College, and during his time there played with the school’s basketball team, leading the school to an undefeated season. He also became a part of the Toronto 5-0 which went on to win the provincial championship with a 33-4 record. He then moved to the Charlotte Christian School, helping his team to three state playoff appearances. After matriculating, he attended Davidson College, finishing his freshman basketball collegiate season leading the Southern Conference with scoring, becoming second in the nation behind Kevin Durant. He then broke Keydren Clark’s NCAA freshman season record for 3-point field goals, and so won numerous awards during the season. He continued leading the conference in scoring during his second year, and Davidson would earn its third straight NCAA tournament bid, winning their first match since 1969, advancing to the Elite 8, and breaking the record for most three pointers in a season. He continued to perform well in his junior season, finishing with an average of 28.6 points, 5.6 assists and 2.5 steals. Stephen then joined the NBA Draft.
During the 2009 NBA Draft, Curry was selected as the seventh overall pick by the Golden State Warriors, gaining a $12.7 million four-year rookie contract which laid a strong basis for his net worth. He finished second in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting, then won the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend Skills Challenge, and an NBA Sportsmanship Award, despite playing less due to multiple injuries. In 2012 he signed a contract extension with the Warriors and he would then score a career high 54 points, including setting a franchise record for three points made in a game with 11, and being sixth seed in the playoffs before losing in the second round against the San Antonio Spurs. In 2014, the team hired new head coach Steve Kerr, and the team would become a title contender; the Warriors finished the year with Curry as the NBA Most Valuable Player. The team would then win the NBA championship against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 2015, he would help the team become the second in NBA history to win 70 games in season, also making him the seventh player in NBA history to join the 50-40-90 club. He became the only player to be elected unanimously the league MVP, but they lost in the finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In 2016, Stephen would pass Steve Nash in the NBA’s career three pointers list, and would become seventh in the Warriors’ all-time scoring list. Later in the season he would continue to climb various all time lists with his efficient scoring, culminating with the team winning the 2017 NBA Finals. He subsequently signed a five-year $201 million extension, making him the first NBA player to sign a supermax contract. His net worth increased significantly as a result.
For his personal life, it is known that Curry married longtime girlfriend Ayesha Alexander in 2011; they have two children together. Curry’s father is former NBA player Dell Curry while his younger brother Seth Curry also plays in the NBA. He is also very outspoken about his Christian faith.
