Shane Andre Mosley Wiki Biography
Shane Andre Mosley was born on 7 September 1971, in Lynwood, California. USA. He is a professional boxer, best known for becoming a boxing champion in three different weight divisions. He’s also considered as one of the most popular boxers in the sport, having defeated big names such as Oscar De La Hoya and Antonio Margarito. All of his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Sugar Shane Mosley? As of mid-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $10 million, mostly earned through a successful career as a boxer. He’s been boxing since the 1980s and has fought in over 60 professional fights. As he continues his career, it is expected that his wealth will rise further.
Shane developed an interest in boxing after he watched his father box in street fights. Since he was eight years old, his father trained and managed him, helping improve his boxing skills. During his amateur career, he won or was place highly in numerous tournaments including the United States Amateur Championship and the World Junior Championships.
He started his professional career by becoming lightweight champion, defending his title against John Brown and Golden Johnson before deciding to compete in the welterweight division. He was slated to fight against the champion at the time Oscar de la Hoya, which took place in 2000, with Mosley winning the bout on a split decision, earning him $15 million. This was the start of his increase in net worth.
Three years later he went on to fight in the light-middleweight division, against Raul Marquez, but the match became a no contest due to an accidental head butt. Later in the same year, Shane went on to fight De La Hoya once again for the light-middleweight championship which he won with a controversial unanimous decision. He then returned to the welterweight division in 2009 to try and regain the title from Antonio Margarito at the Staples Center. Many had suspected that Mosley would lose the fight to a much younger Margarito, but the opposite happened, with Shane getting a TKO against Margarito in the ninth round. The win solidified Mosley as one of the top boxers of the era. The following year he fought Floyd Mayweather Jr., and while Shane landed strong shots in the second round, Mayweather recovered to beat him and gain the Welterweight Championship. In 2010, he fought against Sergio Mora, a match which became a disputed split draw. The following year he went against Manny Pacquiao but lost by being knocked down during the third round.
After the fight with Pacquiao, Mosley retired, but came out of retirement to fight Pablo Cesar Cano and won the fight. He then went on to fight Anthony Mundine but lost by a TKO. He announced a second retirement in 2013, stating that he wanted to focus on training his son. He would only come out of retirement if he was set to fight a big name in the welterweight division. In 2015, he returned to fight and win against Ricardo Mayorga, and then went on to fight Patrick Lopez for yet another win. A further fight is scheduled for late May 2016.
For his personal life, it is known that Shane has four children, one from a previous relationship who’s now a professional boxer; Mosley married Jin Sheehan in 2002 and they have three children, but divorcd in 2010.
