Rick Scott was born on the 1st December 1952, in Bloomington, Illinois USA, and is a businessman and politician, a member of the Republican Party. Since the 4th January 2011, Rick Scott serves as the Governor of Florida state.

Later, Scott devoted himself to the venture capital industry. He continued investing in the medical sector, being an important shareholder of hospitals’ network Solantic and pharmacies Pharmac. For a time he was also a co-owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, for which his business partner was the later President George W. Bush.
Talking about his political career, his first major project was the organization of Conservatives for Patients’ Rights, which opposed plans for health reform put forward by the administration of President Barack Obama; Scott gave $5 million of his personal wealth to co-finance a media campaign conducted by the organization. In 2010, he ran successfully for governor of Florida in the colors of the Republican Party, being victorious over his main rival state attorney general Bill McCollum. On the other hand, he faced Democrat Alex Sink, serving then the state government as Chief Financial Officer; Scott garnered 48.87% of the votes and Sink 47.72%. On the 4th January, 2011 he was sworn in as the 45th governor of Florida. Scott spent $75 million on his campaign from the assets of his own. On the 4th November, 2014, he secured re-election as governor of Florida, beating the Democratic candidate Charlie Crista.
