Richard Clay Hamilton, born on the 14th of February, 1978, is an American retired professional basketball player, who became famous when playing with the teams the Washington Wizards and Detroit Pistons among others in the National Basketball Association(NBA).
So how much is Hamilton’s net worth? As of mid 2016 it is estimated by authoritative sources to be $50 million, acquired from his years playing professional basketball, along with his many appearances on television.
Born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania, Hamilton is the son of Pam Long and Richard Hamilton. His parents separated when he was young, with his father moving out of the house. Even though his father is not with them, the older Hamilton still made it a point of spending time with him as a kid.
Even at an early age, Hamilton always loved basketball, playing in school and in courts nearby his home. During his school years at Coatesville High, he had a hard time making it into the team during his first year, but through non-stop training he eventually became part of the team in his sophomore year.
Because of his skills, he later attended the University of Connecticut and became part of the basketball team during his college years from 1996 to 1999. Some of the accolades he received included the NCAA championship in 1999 being named one of the Most Outstanding Players in the NCAA 1999, Consensus second-team All-American in 1998 and Consensus first-team All-American in 1999 and was the second leading scorer in his colleges’ history.
In 1999, Hamilton entered the NBA Draft and became the 7th pick of the team the Washington Wizards. Even though he only spent a short time with the team, his transition to professional basketball put him under the spotlight, and helped his net worth immensely.
In 2002, Hamilton was traded to the Detroit Pistons, and spent some of the highlights of his career with the team. He became part of the 2004 Championship team and became an NBA All-Star three times, in 2006, 2007 and 2008. After nine years with the team, he left in 2011 and transferred to the Chicago Bulls – his new contract increased his wealth immensely.
Hamilton spent his last year playing professional basketball with the Chicago Bulls until he was forced to retire in 2015, due to a foot injury that kept him from playing.
Aside from playing basketball, Hamilton is also a frequent face on television. He has appeared in shows like “NBA Fundamentals” and “Wanna Bet” that also helped in his net worth. He is also an advocate for children, helping charities like the Read to Achieve program.
In terms of his personal life, Hamilton has been married to So Pluch member T.J. Lottie since 2009, and together they have a son, Richard Hamilton II.
