Richard Eckersley Wiki Biography

Born Richard Jon Eckersley on the 12th March 1989, in Worsley, England, he is a retired soccer player, who played in England and North America for such teams as Manchester United, Burnley, Toronto FC, New York Red Bulls and Oldham Athletic, before retiring.

Have you ever wondered how rich Richard Eckersley is, as of late 2017? Authoritative sources estimate that largely thanks to his successful soccer career over 10 years, he counts his net worth at over a million dollars, added to by his current business.

Richard grew up in his hometown and is the middle child with an older brother, Adam Eckersley, who is also a footballer, and Mike Eckersley.

As early as 2004, Richard’s career started, when he joined Manchester United, debuting for the under-17 team against Manchester City. In 2005 he joined the under-18 side, but fell out of the competition due to a long-term knee injury. Young Richard experienced all the troubles he could early in his career, as the injury kept him sidelined for around eight months, which resulted in only three appearances in the 2005-2006 season. However, the following year Richard became a regular player in the under-18 team, wearing the United jersey 25 times. Richard was progressing, and spent the 2007 season in the reserve squad, making 23 appearances. He stayed in Manchester until 2009, but recorded only two first time appearances, although a member of the United squad that won the League Cup.

As he seemed unlikely to progress further with at United, in July 2009 he joined Burnley on a four-year contract, but didn’t make a single Premier League with his new team, instead, he played only one game in the League Cup, during which he was sent off. He was then loaned to Plymouth Argyle for the 2009-2010 season, while the 2010-2011 season he spent at Bradford City and then Bury.

After his unsuccessful start in senior squads, Richard was loaned to Toronto FC of the North American Major League Soccer (MLS) in January 2012. He became one of the main defenders of the club, making 72 appearances in three seasons before he was traded to the New York Red Bulls in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. He made nine appearances for the Red Bulls in 2014, but after his contract expired, the franchise decided not to re-sign Richard, and so he returned to England and joined Oldham Athletic, but not before he was on tryouts with Elche of La Liga and Southend United. He appeared in four games for Oldham Athletic, before he suffered another ankle injury and the team decided to end the contract, which marked his retirement.

After retiring, Richard has put his efforts elsewhere, and is now the co-owner of a zero waste shop in Totnes, Devon, with his wife – in his personal life, Richard is married to Nicola, and they have a son.
