Peter Clay Carroll was born on September 15, 1951 in San Francisco, California USA, of mixed origin including Irish and Croatian. Pete Carroll is a well-known American football coach of the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). Pete has also been the head coach of the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans. He is one amongst only three coaches who have won both a Super Bowl and a college football national championship.

Pete showed interest in sports from his childhood. He attended Redwood High School at Larkspur, but because of his lack of weight at only 110 pounds (50kg) he needed a doctor’s approval to play football – Peter subsequently played wide receiver, quarterback or defensive back. Carroll enrolled at the College of Marin and played football there for two years, after which he transferred to the University of the Pacific, and played there for the Tigers for two years, receiving All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference honors in 1971 and 1972. He graduated in 1973 with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, shortly after which he tried for Honolulu Hawaiians of the World Football League in Riverside, but was rejected.

Carroll was noticed by his head coach Chester Caddas, who offered him a job as a graduate assistant on his staff at Pacific, which he accepted, and served three years, working with the wide-receivers and secondary defenders. After graduation at Pacific, Carrol was hired by the University of Arkansas in 1977 and spent the season as a graduate assistant, making $182 a month coaching Razorbacks who won the 1978 Orange Bowl. It was the start of his net worth.

In the following season, Pete Carroll moved to Iowa State University, and was hired as an assistant by Earle Bruce. Shortly after that they moved to Ohio State University where they coached the Ohio state squad who made it to the 1980 Rose Bowl.

Carroll was then hired by Pacific’s head coach Bob Cope as his assistant in 1983, but in 1984 Carroll left Pacific and entered the NFL, as the defensive backs coach of the Buffalo Bills. The following year, Pete worked for the Minnesota Vikings where he had the same position for five seasons, and because of his success with the Vikings, he was hired by Bruce Colset as defensive coordinator for New York Jets (1989-1993).

Then Carroll became a head coach of Jets in 1994, but was fired after a losing season, so in 1995-96 Carroll worked as the defense coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers, at which he was considered most successful, and led him to the head coaching role of the New England Patriots in 1997, succeeding coach Bill Parcells, and where he worked until 1999.

In December of 2000 it was announced that Carroll would head coach the USC Trojans, signing a contract for five seasons, replacing Paul Hackett. He earned $1 million annually but received a raise after 2002 and in 2004 his annual earning was $3 million. In nine seasons, USC won two national collegiate titles and played in another final, with Carroll sporting a most impressive 83-19 win-loss record.

In 2010 after some controversial NCAA sanctions against USC, Carroll announced that he would leave to become head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, signing a five year contract worth an impressive $33 million. His crowning glory to date has been the Seahawks winning the 2014 Super Bowl, and then being losing finalists the year after.

Regarding his personal life, Carroll was married to Wendy Pearl(1973-75) and has been married to Glena Goranson since 1976 – they have three children. He is a noted philanthropist, including founding charity A Better LA, with the aim of reducing violence in certain areas of Los Angeles.
