Paquita la del Barrio Wiki Biography
Paquita La Del Barrio, which translates to “Pacquita from the Neighbourhood”, was born on the 2nd of April, 1947 in Alto Lucero, Veracruz, Mexico. Her real name is Francisca Viveros Barradas. She is a popular Mexican singer, singing rancheras style music, and is admired outside of Mexico largely for her camp persona. She is also well known in various other Spanish speaking countries.
With a recording history dating back to 1988, and having maintained a musical career since 1970, how rich is Pacquita La Del Barrio? Sources estimate her net worth at $10 million.
Pacquita has become a feminist icon in Mexico, and has proven extremely popular with female audiences. In 1970, she moved to Mexico City with her sister to begin singing. Initially, they worked together, forming a duo called “Las Golondrinas” (“The Swallows”). She quickly rose to prominence, although not necessarily of a mainstream variety, with songs that skewered macho culture, and celebrated female empowerment. It was at this time she began to perform many of her now most-beloved songs, including her most famous hit, “Rata De Dos Patas” (“Two-Legged Rat”), a song in which she discusses her ex-partner, and compares him to a variety of animals and reptiles, and expounds on her general hatred of him.
In 1984, she recorded her first album, “Mi Renuncia”, though she remained unsigned to a label. It wasn’t until a year later, that she managed to appear on television, singing on the show “Hoy Mismo”.
In 2010, Pacquita contributed to the Spanish version of the 1985 American hit “We are the World”, joining other Latin superstars including Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, and Pitbull. All profits from the song were contributed to the earthquake relief fund for Haiti. It reached a peak position of 31 on the Spanish music chart.
Pacquita continues to enjoy success in later life. Her most recent album was entitled “La Leyenda Del Barrio”, and was released in 2015. She continues to amass wealth, touring in America, and in her own country, contributing to her total net worth of $10 million. She has maintained a dominant and confrontational persona on stage, and is most heavily associated with the phrase “Me estás oyendo, inútil?” (“Are you listening to me, good for nothing?”).
In her personal life, Pacquita grew up largely in the care of an aunt. She was known as “Chica” in her youth. Her childhood was not an easy one, she would often go without shoes because her family was so poor, and she worked in various odd jobs, including selling bread, and harvesting mangoes. She was often asked to sing at school, due to her beautiful voice. She first married aged just 15, to a man almost 30 years her senior. They had two children together. She later learned that he was already married to another woman, and had a family with her. Her second marriage lasted until her husband’s death in 2000, though they were separated. A mini-series based on Pacquita’s life is set to begin production this year, and will star actor Lambda Garcia.
