Born Maxwell M. Scherzer on the 27th July 1984, in Chesterfield, Missouri USA, Max is a baseball pitcher who has played for the Washington Nationals in Major League Baseball (MLB) since 2015. Previously, he played for the Arizona Diamondbacks (2008-2009), and Detroit Tigers (2010-2014).
Have you ever wondered how rich Max Scherzer is, as of mid- 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Scherzer’s net worth is as high as $50 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a baseball player, which has been active since 2008. His annual salary amounts now to $22 million.
Max is the older son born to Brad and Jan Scherzer; his younger brother, Alex, committed suicide in 2012. He grew up in his hometown, and went to Parkway Central High School where he played baseball for the school team. After four successful seasons, he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 43rd round of the 2003 MLB Draft, however, he opted to attend the University of Missouri, instead of signing a professional contract, so three years later he was drafted again, this time by the Diamondbacks as the 11th overall pick, but did not immediately signed a contract with the NHL franchise, but joined the Fort Worth Cats of the Independent American Association, as he and his agent couldn’t settle the contract worth with the Diamondbacks.
Nevertheless, after three games with the Fort Worth Cats, Max became a new Arizona Diamondbacks player on a $4.3 million contract. He spent two seasons in the minor leagues, before being brought into the Diamondbacks MLB team, but unfortunately he did not play well enough for the Diamondbacks, and after two years he was traded to the Detroit Tigers. He stayed in Detroit until 2015, and during his career with the Tigers, he showed signs of improvement, winning the Cy Young Award in 2013, and was the wins leader in 2013 and 2014, and appeared in two All-Star games in those two seasons.
After the 2014 season, he signed a contract with the Washington Nationals worth $210 million over seven years, which increased his wealth to a large degree. Also, the contract includes a $50 million signing bonus which Max will receive over the next 14 years. Furthermore, his net worth will benefit if he wins a Cy Young Award, then be named as MVP of the World Series, become selected for the All-Star game, and win a Gold Glove or a Silver Slugger Award. Some of these things Max has already accomplished with the Nationals, which only further increased his wealth.
In Washington, he continued where he left off in Detroit, making three more All-Star Appearances, in 2015, 2016 and 2017, while he won his second Cy Young Award in 2016, and was the MLB strikeouts leader in 2016 with 284.
Regarding his personal life, Max has been married to Erica May since 2013; the couple is expecting their first child, who according to sources will be born in November 2017.
Max has a genetic condition called heterochromia which means that his eyes have different colors – his left eye is brown, while his right eye is blue.
His late brother, Alex, was focused on sabermetrics, which is the detailed analyzing of baseball statistics and Max himself learned greatly from the statistics, and tried to implement all his knowledge in the game. Following the death of his brother, Max has dedicated every start to Alex, showing the world how tight was their bond.
