Lloyd Price Wiki Biography
Lloyd Price was born on 3 March 1933 in Kenner, Louisiana USA, to Louis and Beatrice Price, and is well known as an R&B singer and musician.
So just how rich is Lloyd Price as of late 2017? Authoritative sources report that Price’s net worth is as high as $2 million, accumulated from his over six decades-long career in the music industry.
Price grew up in a suburb of New Orleans. As a child, he was interested in music and played trumpet and piano alongside singing in the church’s gospel choir. He became famous when Art Rupe, the owner of the Los Angeles based Specialty Records heard him play ‘’Lawdy Miss Clawdy’’, and wanted to sign a record deal with Price. However, Price didn’t have his own band, thus they collaborated with Dave Bartholomew in order to find suitable band mates for Lloyd. The song was eventually released and became widely successful with music fans. It was followed by another song entitled ‘’Oh Oh Oh’’, which wasn’t as successful, butLloyd continued releasing new music for Specialty Records, although none of his following singles achieved chart topping status.
Regardless, his net worth was established.
Price ended up separating from his band, and subsequently established KRC Records with Harold Logan and Bill Boskent. Their debut single ‘’Just Because’’ was released by ABC Records, and the group went on to create numerous nationwide hits. In the forthcoming period, they made two albums entitled ‘’Mr. Personality’’ and ‘’The Exciting Lloyd Price’’, both released in 1959. The lead single from the former peaked at number two on the charts.
Price then founded the record label Double L Records, alongside his colleague Harold Logan, however, he went on to establish Turntable, after Logan’s death in 1969. Throughout the ‘70s, he was the owner of the restaurant-nightclub Turntable in Manhattan, aside from which he helped the boxing promoter Don King promote fights, and later on, Price was involved in the building of more than 40 houses in The Bronx suburb of New York.
He concurrently worked on the album entitled ‘’Stagger Lee’’, and following in the same fashion, his next projects were ‘’To The Roots and Back’’ and ‘’Mr. Personality’s’’, released in 1972 and 1973 respectively – the latter was one of the adaptations of his previous hit album of the same title. In the next year, he worked on ‘’Misty’’, which received mixed and mediocre reviews, but he continued working in the music industry in the late ‘70s as well. As of the early ‘80s, he created ‘’Lloyd Price’’, a limited edition album distributed in Japan only.
In 1993, he toured Europe alongside many soul genre singers. On his birthday in 2010 he was inducted into Louisiana Hall of Fame, and in June of the same year, he made an appearance on ‘’Treme’’, an HBO drama television series.
As of the most recent past, Lloyd has been managing Icon Food Brands, which makes Southern style foods. A street in his hometown was named after him, and there is an annual Lloyd Price day there as well. In conclusion, he has released over 20 albums so far.
In his personal life, Price is believed to live with his (unnamed) wife in Westchester County, New York State.
