Linda Purl Wiki Biography
Linda Purl was born on the 2nd September 1955 in Greenwich, Connecticut USA, and is an actress and singer best known to the world as Charlene Matlock in the TV crime investigation series “Matlock” (1986-1987), among many other differing appearances. Her career started in 1966, becoming a child actress appearing in plays “The King and I” and “Oliver!”.
Have you ever wondered how rich Linda Purl is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources it has been estimated that Purl’s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned through her successful career in the entertainment industry, during which she appeared in over 100 film and TV titles.
Linda was born into a family of actors, with her grandmother being the founder of Actors’ Equity Association. When she was five years old, she and her family moved to Japan where she lived until her teen years. She attended Toho Genio Academy, and became only foreign student of the highly appreciated academy. She then made her first acting appearances in several plays at the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo, portraying Louis in “The King and I”, and as Bet in “Oliver!”. She then returned to USA, and went to Wykeham Rise School, which specializes in creative and performing arts, and during her high school years she made her screen debut in the soap opera “The Guiding Light”. Following her matriculation, Linda enrolled at Finch College, but also at the same time studied acting under Marguerite Beale in England, and in the USA at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute.
Throughout the ‘70s, Linda climbed her way up the ladder with roles in such productions as the film “Crazy Mama” (1975), and TV series “Beacon Hill” (1975). Also in 1976 she had the role of Molly Beaton in the made-for-television film “Young Pioneers”, and reprised the role in the sequel “Young Pioneers” the same year.
She started the next decade with the role of Kathy in the adventure film “The High Country” (1981), and in 1982 featured in the horror film “Horror-Hospital”. In 1986 she was selected for the role of Charlene Matlock, daughter of criminal defense attorney Ben Matlock, star of the series portrayed by Andy Griffith. The role had put her on the acting scene, and increased her net worth to a large degree.
Although her roles are many, the best part of those roles are secondary parts in B-production films, with very few worth mentioning. From 1994 to 1995 she portrayed Brett Robin in the TV series “Robin’s Hoods”, and then in 1998 appeared next to Charlize Theron, Bill Paxton and Rade Serbedzija in the action adventure “Mighty Joe Young”, and in 2002 portrayed Sarah Novelli in the TV series “First Monday”. During the 2000s, Linda featured in several films, such as the horror “Fear of the Dark” (2003), “Stranger at the Door” (2004), and “Maid of Honor”, which only added to her wealth. Then from 2009 to 2013, Linda played Helene in the highly popular TV comedy series “The Office”, while also appearing in minor roles in various other TV series. In recent years, Linda appeared in the thriller “Bender” (2016), and in 2017 made an appearance in the TV series “Designated Survivor” as Julia Rombauer.
Linda is also an accomplished musician; mostly focused on jazz music, she has released a number of albums, including “Out of This World – LIVE”, among others, the sales of which also increased her wealth.
Regarding her personal life, Linda has been married and divorced four times, and she has one child out of those relationships. Father of her child is Linda’s third husband, producer and writer Alexander Cary, with whom she was married from 1993 to 1999.
Her first husband was actor Desi Arnaz Jr., with whom she was married only a year, from 1980 to December 1981. Seven years later she married writer William Broyles Jr., and the two divorced in 1992. From 2006 to 2011 she was married to James Vinson Adams.
