Lee Trevino was born on the 1st December 1939, in Dallas, Texas USA, and is a retired professional golfer, noted as one of the best that played the game. Trevino is the greatest Hispanic golfer of all time and the World Golf Hall of Fame inductee as of 1981. He won six major tournaments and 29 PGA Tour events, which added dozens of millions to his account. His career started in 1960.

Lee Buck Trevino or “The Merry Mex” or “Supermex”, the nicknames given to him by fellow golfers, is of Mexican ancestry. He was raised by his mother Juanita Trevino, and his grandfather Joe Trevino. Lee never met his father Joseph, who left the family when Lee was very young. His family was rather poor, so Trevino had to work from an early age – his first job was in a cotton field, aged five.Trevino was introduced to golf when his uncle gave him a couple of balls and an old club, so he started to develop his love towards the game. His job as a full-time caddy at the Dallas Athletic Club earned him $30 per week, but he had to quit school at the age of 14. As a caddy, he was allowed to train after work, and Lee soon became quite proficient at the game.
After being discharged from the United States Marine Corps in 1960, Trevino became a professional golfer in El Paso, Texas. He made his first money as a golfer in 1966, qualified for the US Open and finished 54th, which brought him $600. Next year, Trevino finished 5th and earned $6,000. Lee won over $26,000 in his rookie year and was announced “Rookie of the Year” by Golf Digest. In 1968, Trevino won the U.S. Open, finishing above his big rival Jack Nicklaus. Lee was awarded Sports Illustrated magazine’s “Sportsman of the Year”, and ABC’s “Wide World of Sports” Athlete of the Year in 1971. The seventies were the best period in Trevino’s career, and he made his first million by winning numerous titles in that decade.
From 1968 to 1981, Lee won at least one PGA Tour per season, and was the second on the PGA Tour’s career money list, only behind arch-rival Nicklaus. As a senior, Trevino was at the top of money list in 1990 and 1992.For six years between 1983 and 1989, Trevino worked on NBC as a color analyst for the PGA Tour broadcasts. Most recently, the “Supermex” was named “Golf Professional Emeritus” at “The Greenbrier” resort in 2014.Lee Trevino’s golfing skills brought him a PGA Tour player of the year award in 1971, the Vardon Trophy in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1974, and 1980, and the Byron Nelson Award in 1980. Trevino was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981. Regarding his personal life, Lee Trevino has been married to Claudia since 1983.
