Lee Greenwood Wiki Biography

Born Melvin Lee Greenwood on the 27th October 1942, in Los Angeles, California USA, he is a country musician, best known to the world for his song “God Bless The USA” (1984). He has released over 20 studio albums during his career, which has been active since the early 1960s.Have you ever wondered how rich Lee Greenwood is, as of mid-2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Lee`s net worth is as high as $10 million, an amount earned through his successful involvement in the music scene. Apart from “God Bless The USA”, his singles “Somebody`s Gonna Love You”, “Going, Going, Gone”, and “I Don`t Mind The Thorns”, have all reached No. 1 on the USA charts.

Lee grew up on a farm located near Sacramento with his maternal grandparents, as his parents divorced. When he was seven years old, Lee joined the church choir.

His career began in the early 1960s, when he founded his first band called The Apollos, however, it later changed name to the Lee Greenwood Affair. They recorded a few albums which were released through the Paramount label, however, the band broke up in the 1970s. In 1969 he was a part of the band Chester Smith Band, and appeared on TV, and then started working with Del Reeves. Unfortunately all this work and devotion didn`t really lead anywhere.

Nevertheless, in 1979 luck smiled on him, as Lee befriended Larry McFadden who was the bassist and leader of the band Mel Tillis. Soon McFadden became Lee`s manager, and he was signed to MCA, Nashville division. His first album came out in 1982, entitled “Inside Out”, and a single of the same name was previously released and reached the top 20 on the USA charts. The album, peaked at No. 12 on the US Country chart and achieved gold status, which only increased Lee`s net worth. He continued successfully with the next few albums – “Somebody`s Gonna Love You” (1983), “You`ve Got A Good Love Comin` “(1984) which also achieved gold status, and “Streamline”, which topped the US Country Chart, which has been his only album to achieve this status.

Since then, Lee has had mediocre success, with just one album standing out -“American Patriot”, released in 1992, which achieved platinum status, and helped increase his net worth. The same year he released “Love`s On The Way”, and in 1990s, he released albums “Totally Devoted To You” (1995), “Wounded Heart” (1998), which certainly added to his net worth.

His last album came out in 2003, entitled “Stronger Than Time”, and before that he released three albums “Same River Different Bridge” (2000), “Good Old Country” (2000), and “Inspirational Songs” (20002), without any major success.

In 1996, Lee opened a theatre in Seierville, Tennessee, called “Lee Greenwood Theater”, and it operated for the next five years, which also increased Lee`s net worth.

Regarding his personal life, Lee has been married to Kimberly Payne since 1992, a former Miss Tennesse USA; the couple has two children. Lee also has three marriages behind him; his first wife was Edna, with whom he was married from 1960 until 1964; they had two children together. His second wife was Roberta Taylor; the couple was married from 1965 until 1977, and had one child. His third marriage was to Melanie Cronk – they married in 1981, but eventually divorced.
