Laila Ali Wiki Biography
Laila Amaria Ali was born on 30th December 1977 in Miami Beach, Florida USA. The world probably knows her best as the daughter of legendary American professional boxer Muhammad Ali, however, Laila also used her fists with a lot of success before she retired. She earned a few notable awards during her career, which include the Super Middleweight Champion in 2002.
Have you ever wondered how rich Laila Ali is? According to sources it is estimated that Laila Ali`s net worth is $10 million, an amount earned through her successful boxing career, however her face is also known on television, as she has appeared in numerous shows, which include “Dancing With Stars”, “The Early Show”, “The N`s Student Body”, which also had an influence on her total net worth.
Before she expressed the interest for boxing, Laila graduated from Santa Monica College with a business degree. In addition, she had also opened a beauty salon, before entering the ring. Her interest in a career in boxing started in 1995, when she was 18 years old, while she was watching a fight of Christy Martin which encouraged her to try on her own. Until the 8th October 1999 she hadn`t entered the ring, then she debuted against April Flower and won the match in the first round by knock-out. Her father, Muhammad Ali, was at first against Laila`s career in boxing, but after her successful debut, he eventually accepted it, and started helping her along the way, until her retirement. Her second fight also ended in her favor, winning against Shadina Pennybaker by TKO. Laila continued with fights, winning eight in a row, increasing her net worth and fame little by little after each win. Her career developed, and this earned her a fight against Jackie Frazier-Lyde, a daughter of the retired boxer Joe Frazier. The fight happened on 8th June 2001; the fight got a title AliFrazier IV as a reference to their fathers’ history as famous boxers, fighting three times. Laila won this fight as well, however it was in eight rounds and by judges decision. This was the first pay-per-view match as a main event in women’s boxing.
After this match she went on a little break from boxing, but in 2002 she returned, and continued where she left off, defeating Shirvelle Williams in the sixth round, by the decision of the judges. In 2002 she earned her IBA title winning against Suzette Taylor by a knockout in the second round. In addition she also won WIBA and IWBF belts, winning against Valerie Mahfood with a knock-out in eight rounds. With these wins and awards she added a substantial amount to her net worth. Her career in boxing ended in 2007, her last fight was against Gwendolyn O`Neil, which she won in the first round by TKO.
With her career in boxing, which had become more and more noticeable, Laila also expanded her career on television. In 2002 she appeared in a music video entitled “Deny” which was performed by the Canadian rock band “Default”. In 2004 she was a guest-star on the George Lopez show. In 2007 Laila appeared in the show called “Dancing with Stars”, partnering the professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy; the couple finished the competition in third place. Her television career is as successful as her boxing career, as in 2013 she began hosting “Ali in With Laila Ali” and also the “Late Night Chef Fight”. Her most recent success includes her acting effort in a film “Falcon Rising” in 2014.
Adding to her net worth, Laila has also published the book entitled “Reach! Finding Strength, Spirit, and Personal Power”.
Regarding her personal life, Laila has been married twice. Her first marriage was with Johnny “Yahya” McClain from 2000 to 2005.
