He also participated in many basketball related events, and all of these ensured the position of his wealth.

Baker started his basketball career playing for Old Saybrook High School, but after matriculating was passed over by a lot of high profile colleges. He then signed a scholarship to play with the Hartford Hawks, and in 1989 was named in the North Atlantic Conference All-Rookie Team. He became a starter in the following season, and started showing more of his skills, getting an All-NAC spot. This continued during his junior year with high statistics despite a poor team record. He averaged 28.3 points per game and holds a record 792 points in 28 games for the conference. Despite this, the school was unsuccessful, not even reaching a 50% win rate.

Vin joined the 1993 NBA Draft, and was picked by the Milwaukee Bucks as the eighth pick overall. He played with the team for four seasons and was then traded to the Seattle SuperSonics. He continued to play with Seattle in the next four years and was then traded to the Boston Celtics. Despite having consistent performances, his numbers started to drop significantly, and his weight started increasing. It was then revealed that Baker had been suffering from alcoholism, and the team suspended him before he was released. He then signed with the New York Knicks, and reached the playoffs during the 2003 to 2004 season.

In 2005, Baker was traded to the Houston Rockets, but he would be released within the same year. He then signed with the Los Angeles Clippers as a reserve, and the following year with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but never played a game with them and was eventually released.

After the NBA, Baker tried his hand at numerous endeavors including working as an assistant coach for a high school basketball team. He also joined Dennis Rodman in 2014 to be part of the “basketball diplomacy” effort in North Korea.

For his personal life, it is known that Baker married Shawnee in 2014, however, his life has been blighted by numerous arrests for drunk driving and other related issues. He lost his home worth $2.3 million to a foreclosure, and was reported to have lost $100 million overall, most probably as a consequence of his addiction. He now works with the Stand Tall Foundation which helps in assisting young people with their education and development. Aside from that, it has also been suggested that he was training to become a Starbucks manager.
