Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr. Wiki Biography

Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr is a very multi-talented celebrity: he‘s a songwriter, singer, composer, musician(pianist), conductor, lyricist, film producer and actor. Harry was born on September 11th in 1967 in New Orleans. His father, Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Sr was the district attorney and his mother, Anita Frances was a lawyer. Connick also has a sister, Suzanna. So how rich is Harry Connick Jr? With many talents comes a high net worth, which has been estimated by reputable sources at $50 million, the majority of Harry‘s wealth has come from his many accomplishments in music.

Harry was just three years old when he learned to play the piano. At five, he started making public performances. Harry kept developing his musical skills and at the age of nine he played Beethoven‘s Piano Concerto No. 3 Opus 37. He also played I‘m Just Wild About Harry with Eubie Blake in Orleans Esplanade Lounge. It was recorded and featured in the documentary Jazz Around the World. After that, he was taught to play by Ellis Marsalis Jr. and James Booker at the New Orleans Center of Creative Arts.

Harry‘s big break happened in 1989, after he moved to New York. Director Rob Reiner requested a soundtrack for the film When Harry Met Sally. In this soundtrack, Harry included songs like Let‘s Call the Whole Thing Off, Don‘t Get Around Much Any More and It Had to Be You. The soundtrack ended up being a huge success, earning Connick a Grammy for Best Jazz Male Vocal Performance. Later in his career he won two more Grammies and two Emmys and his album sales have reached over 25 million globally. This undoubtedly has been a huge part of developing his net worth.

Besides the hugely successful musical career, Harry also has a stable acting career. His first acting job was in Memphis Belle in 1990. Thanks to that, he later got roles in Copycat in 1995, Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock in 1998, P.S. I Love You with Hilary Swank, New in Town, and ,Independence Day with Will Smith in 1996. He also voiced a character in the 1999 animated movie The Iron Giant. Besides those, Harry has appeared in 23 episodes of Will and Grace and in four episodes of Law and Order: Special Victim Unit. These roles also added a significant portion to Harry‘s net worth.

His latest job is with American Idol. He signed up to be a judge on the show in 2013 and has been starring in it since January of 2014. His co-workers include Keith Urban, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Jennifer Lopez.

Connick Jr‘s sucess has never blinded him, he continued to maintain his music career with great care, steadily releasing new albums. His plans were disrupted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, when it wrecked New Orleans. Connick came back to his hometown along with Habitat for Humanity and Branford Maraslis to help the victims of the disaster and rebuild lost homes.

In his personal life, Connick is married to Jill Goodacre, who used to be Victoria‘s Secret model. They‘ve been married since April of 1994. Connick dedicated a song to her, fittingly called Jill. The couple has three children, all daughters. Their firstborn was Georgia Tatum, born on April 17th in 1996, then came Sarah Kate, on September 12th in 1997, and the youngest, Charlotte, was born on June 26th in 2002.

Joseph Harry Fowler Connick Jr. Quotes

  • …my mother, I knew until I was 13. She died when I was 13. She was from New York, a Jewish background, and met my dad when they were working for the government in Morocco. And they got married in 1953, moved back to New Orleans. My dad was from Mobile, Alabama, and then grew up in New Orleans. So they came back to New Orleans. They both were lawyers. And they had a record store in the ’50s, about 10 years before I was born, to sort of make money to put themselves through law school. And by the time I came around in ’67, they were both practicing law. And my mom and I were super tight. I think she really wanted me to be an artist, you know? She used to like to tell people she wanted to be Beethoven’s mother. That was her thing. She wanted to be the mother of this person. And my dad, although he was very busy politically, always found the time to support me, to set the right example for me and [my older sister].
  • [on researching his role for ‘Dolphin Tale’] I was just blown away by the humanity of these people. I did some research and found out about what these marine biologists go through, and it’s deep, man. One veterinarian I talked to said to me, ‘Yeah, if that dolphin were brought here to me, I would have euthanized it ’cause there’s a million out there, and we need that money for endangered animals’. It’s a pretty hard decision to make. When you have a limited amount of money, do you spend all of it on developing a prosthetic for an animal that is not endangered?
  • I had an old man moment the other day. I went into Abercrombie & Fitch to get some jeans and the music was so loud I couldn’t stay.
