Johnny Van Zant is an American singer was born on 27 February 1959 in Jacksonville Florida. He is of Caucasian ethnicity and the youngest brother of the famous singers Ronnie Van Zant and Donnie Van Zant . He is probably best known as the lead singer of the southern rock band ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd’, and a major part of his net worth comes from performing with this band.

Johnny comes from a family of great musicians, with his eldest brother was Ronnie Van Zant, a talented and renowned singer who founded the ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd’ band . Second brother Donnie was also in the same field and had founded ’38 Special Band’ . Johnny started giving public performances in the early 70s at te young age of 15, with his first musical group –The Austin Nickels Band which featured Robbie Gay as the guitarist and Ribbue Morris as drummer. However, he renamed it later as the Johnny Van Zant Band.
In the beginning, Johnny wanted to become a drummer for his band, but Ronnie constantly encouraged him to become a singer instead . In 1977, Ronnie and a few other members of his band died in a plane crash. In 1980, Johnny recorded the first album of his singing career, ‘No More Dirty Deals’, which concluded with the song, ‘Standing in the Darkness’, which was a tribute to Ronnie . He recorded two other albums named ‘Round Two’ and ‘Last of the Wild Ones’ for Polydor in 1981 and 1982 respectively, which added a handsome amount to his net worth.
His next album was ‘Van Zant’ which was released in 1985 for Geffen Records. At this point he quit singing for a few years and then in 1987, when the Lynyrd Skynyrd band reunited, he became its lead vocalist. In 1990, his solo album ‘Brickyard Road’ for Atlantic was released and its title track remained at number one position on the U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks chart for 3 weeks. Since then he has been performing with the band, releasing different albums from time to time, ‘Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991’, ‘ The Last Rebel’ and ‘Edge Of Forever’ to name a few. The last released album by the band was ‘Last Of A Dyin’ Breed’ in 2012.
In his personal, Johnny is married to Lisa Van Zant and has four daughters. He currently lives in Black Creek, Jacksonville, Florida and enjoys fishing and boating in his personal boats, and eating Southern food. He is a diehard fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars and his video specially recorded as a tribute to his favorite team is played every time they have a home match. Johnny occasionally tours with brother Donnie to give performances and to add still more to his net worth. He has also undergone surgery a few times for various reasons.
