John Ortiz was born on 23 May 1968 in Brooklyn, New York City USA, into a family of Puerto Rican ancestry and is best known as an actor and co-founder of the LAByrith Theatre Company.

John spent his formative years in the Bushwick neighborhood. Prior to his career on the big screen, he made a support appearance in ‘’Law and Order’’ portraying Roberto Martinez / Victor Vargas in two episodes of the show. He made his movie debut as Al Pacino’s younger cousin Guajiro in ‘’Carlito’s Way’’ in 1993, then went on to play in ‘’Ransom’’ in 1996 alongside Mel Gibson and Rene Russo, which received mostly positive reviews, grossing over $309.5 million at the box office and with Ortiz was gaining more recognition and popularity. Subsequently he played Luis Clemente in ‘’ Sgt. Bilko’’ in 1995, then in 1997 he was a guest star in two episodes of ‘’Touched by an Angel’’, a supernatural drama television series, followed by the role of Cisco in the movie ‘’Riot’’ in the same year. Throughout the late ‘90s, he regularly appeared in supporting roles in both movies and television shows, adding steadily to his net worth.

Subsequently, John had another starring role, in ‘’American Gangster’’ the same year, and in 2009 portrayed Arturo Braga, a Mexican drug lord in ‘’Fast and Furious’’. In 2012, he starred in the critically acclaimed ‘’Silver Linings Playbook’’, then returned in ‘’Fast and Furious 6’’ in 2013.
