John McCain Wiki Biography

John Sidney McCain III, commonly known as John McCain, is a famous American politician, writer, a former military officer, as well as a presenter. To the public, John McCain is perhaps best known as a presidential nominee during the 2008 Presidential election, where McCain together with a running mate Governor Sarah Palin lost to Senator Barack Obama and running mate Senator Joe Biden. The 2008 election was highly publicized, since it was the very first time in history when an African American became the president of the United States. John McCain currently serves as the senior United States Senator. Preceded by Barry Goldwater, John McCain assumed office in 1987 for the first time and has been a Senator ever since. In addition to becoming a Senator, John McCain also served as a Member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1983 until 1987, a Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs from 1995 ‘til 1997, as well as a Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation from 1997 until 2001.

Even though John McCain is best known as a politician, he is also a well-known writer. In 1999, John McCain published his very first book under the name of “Faith of My Fathers”, which served as McCain’s autobiography. The book became so popular that it not only topped the list of best-sellers, but was later made into a movie of the same title, which was directed by Peter Markle. “Faith of My Fathers” featured Shawn Hatosy as John McCain and Scott Glenn as McCain’s father, Jack McCain. The movie was eventually nominated for several Primetime Emmy Awards, as well as American Society of Cinematographers Awards.

A well-known politician, how rich is John McCain? Sources state that John McCain’s annual salary as a senator amounted to $165 000 in 2007. That same year, McCain received a pension of $54 000 and added a sum of $3.2 million from the sale of his house in Phoenix. In regards to his total wealth, John McCain’s net worth is estimated to be $10.5 million.

John McCain was born in 1936, in the Panama Canal Zone. Since McCain’s father was a naval officer in the United States Navy, his family had to move a lot, depending on where his father was posted. His family eventually settled down in Northern Virginia, where he studied at the Episcopal High School. Upon his graduation, McCain decided to follow his father’s footsteps and joined the United States Naval Academy, from which he graduated in 1958. McCain began his career as a naval aviator in Pensacola, later acquired the title of naval pilot and eventually rose to the rank of lieutenant commander. When McCain decided to retire from the Navy, he chose a career path in politics, and in 1982 became the leader of the Republican representatives. As he became more prominent in politics, McCain went on to become a Senator and started his career in Senate in 1987. A famous politician, John McCain has an estimated net worth of $10.5 milion.
