James Marvin Lewis Wiki Biography

Marvin Ronald Lewis, born on the 23rd of September 1958, is a professional American Football coach in the National Football League (NFL), becoming well-known as the head coach of the team Cincinnati Bengals since he took over in 2003.

So how much is Lewis’ net worth? As of early 2017, based on authoritative sources it is reported to be $14 million, acquired from his years working as a coach for various teams in both college and professional football.

Born in McDonald, Pennsylvania, Lewis is the son of Marvin Sr., a foreman and steelworker, and Vanetta, a nurse. He started playing American Football as early as nine years old, and continued during his high school years in Fort Cherry High School, where he played as the team’s quarterback and safety.

Lewis’ performance in high school led him to a land a scholarship at Idaho State University, where he played for the school’s football team as their linebacker. During his college playing years, he earned all-Big Sky Conference honors for three straight years, before graduating with a degree in physical education, then continuing his education in Idaho State University to earn a master’s degree in athletic administration.

After finishing his education, Lewis decided to go straight to work as a coach, starting at his school Idaho State University as their graduate assistant. He later on became the team’s linebacker coach from 1981 until 1984, and after four years he transferred to Long Beach State University and worked as their assistant coach. After only a year he once again transferred, to the University of New Mexico, and then at the University of Pittsburgh. His early coaching years in various universities helped establish him as a coach and also started his net worth.

In 1992, Lewis entered the world of NFL by accepting a coaching internship with the Kansas City Chiefs. He also did the same with the San Francisco 49ers, before getting his first job, as linebackers coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

In 1996, Lewis was hired by the Baltimore Ravens as their defensive coordinator, and worked with the team until 2001 including winning the Super Bowl in 2000. After that he was then hired by the Washington Redskins for the same position, and also as assistant head coach.

Although his work with various teams helped a lot in his career and wealth, he became best-known when he started working for the Cincinnati Bengals, by whom he was hired in 2003 – from having the worst season in franchise history under former coach LeBeau’s tenure, Lewis turned the team around and won the AFC North title in 2005 – reaching the play-offs after a 15 year absence – and then in 2009, 2013 and 2015.

Some of the feats Lewis achieved as the coach of the Bengal’s have included being named coach of the year by the Associated Press in 2009 after leading the team with a 10-6 season. He also guided the team to appear in five playoff series from 2011 to 2015 – although yet to win one – and he has also become the Bengal’s coach with most wins.

In terms of his personal life, Lewis has been with wife Peggy since the early ‘80s, and together they have two sons.
