A notable wide receiver, how loaded is Jacoby Jones? Sources state that Jones has amassed a wealth of over $5 million, as of early 2017. The main source of his wealth has been his football career which began in 2007.
Jones grew up in New Orleans, where he attended St. Augustine High School and Marion Abramson High School, excelling in football, basketball and track in the latter school. He played both receiver and defensive back for the school’s football team. In 2002 he enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University on a track scholarship, but transferred to Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee a year later, where Jones continued his involvement in basketball and track while also joining the school’s football team, the Dragons. He eventually quit his track and basketball commitment, to focus on his football career and went on to become an All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player in three seasons. He was also a remarkable punt/kick returner while at Lane; he finished his college career with 5,380 all-purpose yards, setting a school record.
Jones was selected in the 3rd round, as the 73rd overall pick by the Houston Texans in the 2007 NFL Draft. During his five seasons with the team, the player had less than impressive results, gaining the reputation for frequent struggles with drops. His worst moment came in the 2011 game against Baltimore, when he muffed a punt that led to the Texans defeat; he was released by the team in the following year. Despite his statistics and poor reputation during his tenure with the team, Jones still earned good money.
Later that year he joined the Baltimore Ravens, signing a two-year, $7 million contract, which greatly contributed to his net worth. After his rocky career with the Texans, Jones greatly improved with the new team, becoming one of the best kick-off returners in the NFL. He was soon selected to his first Pro Bowl and named for the 2012 All-Pro team. He helped the Ravens to win the game against the Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional Playoff game by catching a 70-yard throw with 31 seconds left, a feat that boosted his popularity. He went on to score a return touchdown and receiving touchdown during Super Bowl XLVII game against the San Francisco 49ers, becoming the first player to achieve so. He then returned the opening kickoff in the second half for 108 yards, which was the longest kickoff return in Super Bowl history, shooting Jones to fame. He earned his first Super Bowl ring after his team won the game.
In 2014, the Ravens re-signed Jones to a four-year, $12 million contract with $4.5 million guaranteed. However, due to his poor performance during the 2014 season, he was released by the team in 2015, still being due $2.5 million for that season. His net worth grew larger.
Jones then briefly played for the San Diego Chargers in 2015, and for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2015-2016, further expanding his fortune. In early 2017, he joined the Monterrey Steel in the National Arena League.
Aside from his career in the NFL, Jones has also been involved in the world of entertainment. In 2013 he appeared in the 16th season of the television dance competition series “Dancing with the Stars”, finishing in third place.
Speaking about his personal life, Jones has one child with his long-time girlfriend Kimberly Harris. The player has been no stranger to controversy – he was arrested on DUI charges in 2008, pleaded guilty and spent a year in a diversion program for first-time offenders.
