Iwan Thomas Wiki Biography
Iwan Gwyn Thomas is an athlete and a sprinter born on 5th January 1974 in Farnborough, England, and is a former European and Commonwealth Games champion, best known for presenting Wales at the Commonwealth Games, and Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the Olympic Games in the 400 meters. He was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1998.
Have you ever wondered how rich Iwan Thomas is? According to sources it has been estimated that Thomas’s overall net worth is $800,000 acquired through a lucrative and notable professional sports career, which he started in the early ‘90s. Since he is still an active sportsman, his net worth continues to increase.
Although he was born in Farnborough, Iwan’s parents were both of Welsh descent. He studied Sports Science and Geography at Stamford School and West London Institute of Higher Education. He made his athletic breakthrough in 1992 while still a student, at the World Junior Championships when he was a part of the team which finished fifth in the 4×400 meters relay. Two years later, he took part in the Commonwealth Games 400m representing Wales and reached the semi-finals, then in 1995 he ran for Britain in the relay at the European Cup, in which he won a gold medal. A year later, Thomas took part in the Olympic Games in Atlanta, finishing fifth in the 400m final, and earning a silver medal in the 4x400m event. Iwan subsequently ran in Great Britain’s 4x400m team at the 1997 World Championships, finishing second, but were eventually awarded the gold medal in May 2010 following a drug-use inquiry.
Unfortunately, in 1999 Iwan’s career was put on hold after an injury to his ankle, which reocurred four years later and disbarred him from participating in the 2004 Olympic Games. He never officially retired from athletics until 2012, in an edition of the Andy Goldstien’s Sports Bar on TalkSPORT.
Besides his sports career, Thomas has had numerous television appearances; he worked on the children’s television show „Best Of Friends“, is a regular guest on „The Wright Stuff“ on Channel 5, and is a regular panelist on BBC Two’s „Through the Keyhole“. He has taken part in several reality TV shows and television competitions, including „Superstars“, „Hole In The Wall“, „Celebrity MasterChef“ and „Eggheads“. Iwan took part in the London Marathon in 2015 and in September 2016 he was a presenter at the Paralympics Games for Channel 4. When it comes to his other activities, became a member of the Ecover Sailing Team in 2009.
In his personal life, Thomas resides in Southampton and keeps his privacy away from the eyes of the public. After winning the reality TV series „Deadline“, he bought a Ducati 1098 motorcycle.
In 2010 he became an ambassador for The Saints Foundation, the Southampton F.C. charity.
