Ginni Rometty Wiki Biography

Virginia Marie Rommety, better known as Ginni Rometty, was born on the 29th July 1957, in Chicago, Illinois USA, and is a businesswoman best known for her tenure at IBM, as the Chairman, President, and CEO of the company since 2012. She has been active in the business world since 1979.

Have you ever wondered how rich Ginni Rommety is? According to sources, it has been estimated that Ginni`s net worth is $45 million, an amount acquired through her successful career as a businesswoman now spanning more than 35 years.

Ginni was educated at the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University, from which she graduated with a BSc degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 1979. While at the University, Ginni joined the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, and eventually became the president.

Soon after graduation, Ginni found a job at General Motors, but she stayed there for only two years, until in 1981 when she was appointed as systems engineer of the IBM office in Detroit. Ever since then, Ginni began slowly to build up her career, and the size of her net worth.

She stayed in the position of the systems engineer for ten years, after which she became a member of IBM`s Consulting Group. While serving as one of the consultants, Ginni was an initiator of buying the consulting firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers Consulting in 2002, for around $3.5 billion.

Ginni was a member of the Consulting group until 2009, when she was appointed as senior vice-president and group executive for sales, marketing and strategy. While serving in this position, Ginni became the one responsible for IBM`s rapid spread into cloud computing and analytics. This, and previous positions in the company, increased Ginni`s net worth, however, her overall wealth gained a big boost in 2012, when she became the president and CEO of IBM, succeeding Samuel J. Palmisano when he announced his retirement. Since then, her yearly salary has grown, and now amounts to $19.5 million, which of course is the main source of her growing net worth.

By becoming the CEO and President of the IBM, she became the first woman in the history of the company in that position, and being acknowledged as the third most powerful woman in the world by Fortune magazine in 2015.

Thanks to her successful career in business, Ginni has earned several recognitions and accolades; she is a member of the Council on Foreign Policy, and is also a Trustee at her alma mater, Northwestern University. Furthermore, she is also a part of the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, as she is a member of the Board of Board of Overseers and Board of Managers.

Ginni received an honorary doctoral degree from the Northwestern University in 2015, and before that, the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute honored Ginni with a doctoral degree in 2014.

When it comes to her personal life, Ginni is married to Mark Anthony Rometty, however the couple has no children.
