Dwight Freeney was raised with an older brother by parents Joy and Hugh Freeney, Sr. He went to Bloomfield High School in Bloomfield, Connecticut, where he was active in baseball, basketball, football, and soccer, in all of which he earned letters; however, he decided to focus on a career in football, and while in high school he set the record for sacks, and his No. 44 football jersey was retired when he matriculated. Bright and talented, he earned an athletic scholarship to continue studies at Syracuse University, where he played for the Syracuse Orange football team. Hi finished his college football career setting a school record in his senior year with 17.5 sacks and 34 career sacks. Thanks to his skills, Dwight was named a first-team All-Big East Conference selection in 2000 and 2001, as well as a first-team All-American in 2001.

Dwight’s professional playing career began when he was selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2002 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. Upon arrival he signed a rookie contract, and in the same year he set an NFL rookie record with nine forced fumbles, and was nominated for the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. In the 2004 season, he led the team with 16 sacks, finishing it as the 3rd fastest player to achieve 40 sacks. Partly thanks to him, in 2006 the Colts became NFL Champions, defeating the Chicago Bears in Super Bowl XLI. In the next year, he signed a contract worth $72 million over six years, which only increased further his net worth. He excelled in playing until an injury in 2012, when he finished the season with only five sacks and 12 tackles.

Subsequently, Dwight wasn’t resigned by the Colts in 2013, so he signed a two-year contract with the San Diego Chargers. Unfortunately, he was injured, so he couldn’t play consistently, and he finished the 2013-2014 season with 10 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and a pass deflect.

Soon after, he signed a contract with the Arizona Cardinals worth $870,000, increasing his net worth; however, he played there only one season, although he was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16. He left the team, and since August 2016 Dwight has been a player of the Atlanta Falcons, contributing further to his net worth.
