Denise Crosby Wiki Biography

Denise Michelle Crosby is an actress and model, born on 24th November 1957 in Hollywood, California USA, and is probably best known for her role of Security Chief Tasha Yar in season one of the sci-fi TV series “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, and also as Tasha’s daughter, Commander Sela, in later seasons. Apart from her other notable film and television roles, she produced and starred in the documentary film “Trekkies”.

Have you ever wondered how rich Denise Crosby is? According to sources it has been estimated that Denise Crosby’s overall net worth is $6 million, acquired through a fruitful acting career, both on television and in films, which started in the early ‘80s. Since she is still an active member of the entertainment industry, her net worth continues to grow.

Denise is the daughter of actor Dennis Crosby and Marilyn Scott, and her paternal grandfather was famous actor and singer Bing Crosby, who died when she was 19, without ever meeting his granddaughter. She went to LeConte Junior High School and Hollywood High School, and then enrolled at Cabrillo College to study theater. After her famous family background was revealed in an interview, she dropped out of college and started modeling. In 1979, she posed nude for “Playboy” magazine, which she later admitted was her rebellious act against her family’s image. Her first notable acting role was in the soap opera “Days of Our Lives”, in which she portrayed the character of Lisa Davis. She then appeared in three episodes of “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” as Dr. Gretchen Kelly. In the short lived series “Key West”, she played the role of the mayor, and also appeared as a different character in each episode of “Red Shoe Diaries”. Crosby also appeared in several other TV series such as “Models Inc”, “The X-Files”, “Dexter” and “Southland”, adding steadily to her net worth.

When it comes to her acting experience in films, one of her first roles was in “48 Hrs”(1982), in which she starred next to Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy. She also had a small role in “Trail of the Pink Panther” which came out the same year, a role she later reprised in the film’s sequel “Curse of the Pink Panther”. Other notable film roles include those in “Eliminators”, “Pet Sematary”, “Dolly Dearest”, “Jackie Brown” and “Deep Impact”. However, her most famous role came in 1987, when she was cast as Tasha Yar for the syndicated series “Star Trek: The Next Generation”. Denise appeared in 22 episodes before deciding to leave the show, stating that she wasn’t able to do much with her character who was being moved to the background due to more important roles in the series. Some years later, she suggested the TNG production team reprise her role, which eventually happened in season three. Crosby also guest starred in other episodes as Romulan Commander Sela, the half-human daughter of Tasha Yar, a role which she later reprised in the “Star Trek:Armada” video game, and series finale “All Good”. Denise also produced and narrated the 1997 documentary “Trekkies”, and its sequel “Trekkies 2” (2003). All contributed steadily to her net worth.

When it comes to her more recent activity, Crosby voiced the characters of Tasha Yar and Sela in “Star Trek Online” in 2013 and had a recurring role in the TV series “Ray Donovan” the same year. She has also appeared in some of the most popular TV series such as “The Walking Dead”, “Us”, “Bones” and “No Sanctuary”.

Privately, Denise has married twice, firstly to director Geoffrey Edwards, which lasted from 1983 to 1990. In 1995, Cosby married Ken Sylk, with whom she has a son.

Denise Crosby Quotes

  • On why she left Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987): “I wasn’t looking to be the star of the show, but I needed more to do than just answering to the captain”.
  • About leaving the show Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987): “Leaving the show was a really difficult decision to make. It was purely an artistic one. I was very, very frustrated as an actor on the show and I felt straight jacketed. I always kind of use the comparison of being drafted by the major leagues and then being benched so I just felt like I needed to keep going you know, keep running, but I had no idea that I would still have this continuous involvement (with Star Trek) you know”.
  • “Well I just think its ironic that Star Trek: The Next Generation: Yesterday’s Enterprise (1990) was, to me, my favorite episode that I did and was one of the fans’ favorites of the series and that I had to die to actually get that episode written”.
