David Lombardo was born on the 16th February 1965, in Havana, Cuba, and is a drummer who is best known for being a member of the thrash metal band Slayer. Today, he plays drums in his own band Philm, and is involved in several other projects. Lombardo has been active in the entertainment industry since 1981.
How much is the net worth of Dave Lombardo? It has been estimated by authoritative sources that the outright size of his wealth is as much as $12 million, as of the data given in the early 2017. Music is the main source of Lombardo’s fortune.
To begin with, Lombardo is the youngest in a family of four children, which moved from Cuba to the USA when Dave was only two, and settled in South Gate, California. At the age of eight, Lombardo began playing drums, being influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin and KISS. However, he did matriculate from South Gate High School in 1983, before seeking work as a drummer; he came into contact with Kerry King, who asked him to join his band Slayer in 1981. At that time he started writing his own songs, a mixture of British heavy metal and American punk rock.
The Slayer’s debut album “Show No Mercy” was released in 1983, and then followed a long series of only moderately successful albums during an in-out association with the band, until Lombardo Slayer chose to leave in 1992. Alongside Waldemar Sorychta, Lombardo formed the groove metal band Grip Inc. in 1995. The same year, the band released their debut album “Power of Inner Strength” (1995) and subsequently issued three more albums. Unfortunately, the band’s vocalist Gus Chambers committed suicide in the autumn of 2008 and since then the band has been inactive.
However, from 1998 Lombardo became a member of Fantômas, which played a form of experimental, avant-garde metal music. After their first, self-titled album released in 1999, the group has released four more albums. In 2001, Lombardo returned to the band Slayer and the band recorded the studio album “Christ Illusion” (2006) which topped the Billboard Top Tastemaker Albums as well as appearing in the 2nd position on Billboard Top Rock Albums, German and Finnish music charts. They have also released the album “World Painted Blood” (2009), which topped Billboard Top Tastemaker Albums too. However, Lombardo was dismissed from Slayer in February 2013, after which Lombardo collaborated with and been a guest musician in various bands and musicians, including John Zorn and Apocalyptica.
Dave Lombardo has influenced many drummers of current bands such as The Rev from Avenged Sevenfold, Raymond Herrera from ex- Fear Factory, Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel, Adrian Erlandsson ex- Cradle from Filth, Dirk Verbeuren from Megadeth, and Max Kolesne from Krisiun. Patrick Grün of the band Caliban decided to play the drums thanks to Lombardo, and Jason Bittner of Shadows Fall used a double bass drum when he began his career thanks to the influence of Lombardo. It is worth mentioning the fact that Lombardo founded the band Dead Cross in 2015 with Gabe Serbian, Justin Pearson and Michael Crain, and at the end of 2016 the group announced the replacement of the singer Gabe Serbian by Mike Patton.
Finally, in the personal life of the drummer, Dave Lombardo married Theresa in 1986, but they divorced after having two children.
