To the public, David Foster is perhaps best known as a producer, who has worked with such popular artists as Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Brandy, Jennifer Lopez, and Prince to name a few. Foster started out his music career with a Canadian pop/rock band entitled “Skylark”, with which in 1972 he released their self-titled debut album. He then joined “Attitudes” and “Airplay”, until he eventually released his solo album called “The Best of Me”. In 1986, Foster came out with his most successful solo work to date. “David Foster” primarily featured instrumental songs, and only included two singles that were released as duets. The album led to Foster’s nomination for a Grammy Award, and earned him a Juno Award, both in 1986 and 1987. Many of the songs from the album were featured in such films as Joel Schumacher’s “St. Elmo’s Fire” and Steven Spielberg’s “The Color Purple” with Danny Glover, Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Margaret Avery in the main roles. Foster’s most recent solo work came out in 2011, under the title of “Hit Man Returns: David Foster & Friends”.
A well-known musician, as well as a record producer, how rich is David Foster? According to sources, David Foster’s net worth is estimated to be $30 million, most of which he has accumulated due to his involvement in the entertainment industry.
David Foster was born in 1949, in British Columbia, Canada. Even though Foster is best known for producing a variety of successful singles, as well as contributing to the music industry through his solo works, he has also been featured in various television projects. One of Foster’s first television appearances was in his own show called “David Foster’s Twilight Orchestra”, which aired in 1993. More than a decade later, in 2005, he debuted with a reality television series entitled “The Princes of Malibu”, where the main focus was placed on his two stepsons Brody Jenner and Brandon Jenner and their daily activities. The show also included guest appearances from their friend Spencer Pratt, Foster, and their mother Linda Thompson. However, “The Princes of Malibu” only managed to air six episodes, before the show was cancelled. A year later, in 2006, Foster starred in the talk show called “The View”, and made an appearance on Oprah Winfrey’s “The Oprah Winfrey Show”. More recently, Foster, together with his wife Yolanda Foster, was featured in the award-winning reality television series “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”. Following their appearance, Yolanda was later included as a series regular.
Known for his involvement in the music industry, David Foster has been inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame, and Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2013, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Currently, Foster serves as chairman of a record label called “Verve Records”.

David Foster Quotes
- [on first hearing Celine Dion] It was, to say the least, a magical moment – one of those moments you remember forever. She was up there belting out Top 40 songs, and she didn’t even know what she was saying. She didn’t speak hardly any English at all at that point. I couldn’t see anyone else around me. I couldn’t hear anyone else around me. I was mesmerized. I mean, that’s once in a generation. A talent like that. I knew, one-hundred percent, she was going to be a superstar.
- The fact of the matter is I’ve been slagged my whole life for doing so-called pussy music – you know, like people say the reason I don’t go into elevators is because I’m afraid to hear my own music. That’s actually not the truth, but when I lay my hands on the piano what comes out is what comes out.
- I’m probably wouldn’t do anything differently if I had to do it again. Every little thing that happens to you, good and bad, becomes a little piece of the puzzle of who you become. Every successful person you read about – Warren Buffett, Bill Gates – they all say pretty much the same thing. ‘Do what you love’. I know I did.
- Every single day I wake up, I try to do my very best. I give 100-per-cent, and absolutely 100-per-cent love what I do every day. I’ve been doing this for forty years. I’m obsessed with what I do, and I just love it.
