Daniel John Willard Ferry Wiki Biography
Daniel John Willard “Danny” Ferry is a retired professional basketball player – ranked in the top 50 Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball players of all time – born on 17th October 1966 in Hyattsville, Maryland, USA. He is also known as an ex- general manager of the Atlanta Hawks basketball team, and an ex- Vice-President of Basketball Operations of the San Antonio Spurs of the NBA.
Have you ever wondered how rich Danny Ferry is? According to sources it has been estimated that Danny Ferry’s overall net worth is $17 million, accumulated through a successful professional sports career, which began in the late 1980s, during which he has received many acknowledgements and accolades for his play, helping his net worth to increase significantly.
Danny was the son of former NBA center and executive, Bob Ferry. He is of Irish descent as his great-grandfather, born in the “Irish Free State”, emigrated to St.Louis, Missouri in the 1820s.
Influenced by his father’s career, young Ferry started playing basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School, proving to be a true talent. He was ranked one of the top high school basketball centers, and in 1985 was awarded as the prep Player of the Year by Parade Magazine. Ferry then enrolled at Duke University, where he played basketball for more than four seasons and helped the college team, the Blue Devils, reach the Final Four three times. In this period he was selected to the second-team All-America in 1988, and first team All-America in 1989. He also became the first player in ACC history to record over 2000 points, 1000 rebounds and 500 assists in his college career. Before starting his professional career Danny had earned several awards such as Naismith College Player of the Year, UPI player of the year and USBWA College Player of the Year.
Upon graduation, Ferry was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the 1989 NBA Draft, however, he did not want to play for the team so he accepted an offer of the Italian league’s Il Messaggero soon after. As the Clippers traded his rights to the Cleveland Cavaliers, they then signed Danny to a 10-year contract in 1990, where he built a decent career although only averaging points scored in single figures, but still improving his net worth.
In August 2000, he was signed by the San Antonio Spurs, serving as an off-the-bench shooter, and staying with the team throughout the next three seasons, winning the NBA title with the team in 2003. Danny then decided to retire from playing basketball and pursue a career in management. He started working in the Spurs’ middle management, and then signed a 5-year contract with the Cavaliers who took him as their general manager in 2005. During his tenure, the team won its first Central Division title since the 1970s, and finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference for the first time. He then returned to the Spurs, before in June 2012, accepting the position as the general manager of the Atlanta Hawks and the president of their basketball operations. He relinquished his positions in mid-2015.
Other than his career in sports, Ferry presides over “Playing for Peace”, a non-profit organization which uses basketball to unite and educate children from around the world.
Privately, Danny has been married to Tiffany since 1995, and the couple has five children.
